If anything I really like the idea of "Casting Fortunes-" even if only used as a macguffin.
Imagine the characters are all somehow in the King's banquet. Just a normal night of social plotting and drunken revelry... Until in comes a weird little fey magician who tempts the King with a reading from the cards. Surely one so great as he must have an equally great future no?
And then he draws The Void...
