Do you care what other people think of you?

No... for the overwhelming majority of people

When you are young, you tend to care what strangers think, when you get old like me, you really care a lot less about what people who don't know you think. I think as people age, they get more comfortable with who they are.

For the vast majority of the people in the world, no, I don't particularly care. For the small remainder, I care a great deal.
This!

Oh, and I'm actually almost always surprised when I happen to learn what someone thinks of me. With most people I'm a pretty close-lipped person, so it shouldn't be surprising, though. And it can go both ways: Good or bad.

I care about what other people think about me to the extent that it makes my life easier and suits whatever plans I may be trying to implement. So ordinarily I simply try to be reasonably likable and appear completely trustworthy. But the only person who I really care about the opinion of is myself. Other people come and go, but I have to listen to myself every moment until I'm gone.
