Earth's Embrace?

Am I reading this feat right? The CW states it gives you d12 damage for one round of pinning. Pinning requires an attack action. It appears to use this feat, you would forfeit any other attacks barring iterative attacks. But the feat states the d12 damage is "extra". This implies there is a base damage from pinning. Is this an error, or am I missing something?

Ok, lets start with what "pin" means per the rules for grappling. From the SRD:

-------------------------------------------------
Pin Your Opponent: You can hold your opponent immobile for 1 round by winning an opposed grapple check (made in place of an attack). Once you have an opponent pinned, you have a few options available to you (see below).

If You’re Pinning an Opponent
You can attempt to damage your opponent with an opposed grapple check, you can attempt to use your opponent’s weapon against him, or you can attempt to move the grapple (all described above). At your option, you can prevent a pinned opponent from speaking.

Damage Your Opponent: While grappling, you can deal damage to your opponent equivalent to an unarmed strike. Make an opposed grapple check in place of an attack. If you win, you deal nonlethal damage as normal for your unarmed strike (1d3 points for Medium attackers or 1d2 points for Small attackers, plus Strength modifiers). If you want to deal lethal damage, you take a –4 penalty on your grapple check.
-------------------------------------------------

Now, on to Earth's Embrace. Earth's Embrace makes it so when you Pin the opponent, you do 1d12 damage each round that you maintain the pin.

So, if you are using Earth's Embrace a Pin Action would be thus:

Pin Your Opponent using Earth's Embrace: You can hold your opponent immobile for 1 round by winning an opposed grapple check (made in place of an attack). Once you have an opponent pinned, you do 1d12 damage each round that you maintain the pin as a free action, but you are considered immobile, giving opponents (other then the one you are pinning) a +4 bonus on attack rolls against you.

So, each round after you pin an opponent you do 1d12 damage.

It's in addition to your normal unarmed damage, or armor spikes damage, as near as I can tell.

No, you are getting a FREE 1d12 damage each round that you maintain a pin, regardless of if you are using an opposed grapple check durring the pin to damage the opponent.

Per the SRD, when you are pinning an opponent you can normally take the following actions:
  • You can attempt to damage your opponent with an opposed grapple check
  • you can attempt to use your opponent’s weapon against him
  • you can attempt to move the grapple
  • you can prevent a pinned opponent from speaking
  • You can use a disarm action to remove or grab away a well secured object worn by a pinned opponent, but he gets a +4 bonus on his roll to resist your attempt
  • You may voluntarily release a pinned character as a free action; if you do so, you are no longer considered to be grappling that character (and vice versa)
  • You can’t draw or use a weapon (against the pinned character or any other character), escape another’s grapple, retrieve a spell component, pin another character, or break another’s pin while you are pinning an opponent
When you are using the Earth's Embrace feat, once you have pinned an opponent you may take any of the above action with the exception of "move the grapple". In addition, each round you maintain the pin (in other words the pinned character does not break free) you can (if you don't want to hurt him you don't have to) do 1d12 damage regardless of what action you take against the pinned opponent. The 1d12 damage does not require an action, as long as you have the opponent pinned.
