the Buffyverse itself isn't a really great theatre for rpging

Er...I guess I'll go cancel my 3-year old Buffy RPG game...

(Seriously, it's a fantastic game, and it is definitely playable)

I find that modern TV series like Buffy and Stargate SG1 offer some very good models for an RPG campaign in terms of pacing and structure. In particular the combination of 'one episode' adventures and lengthy story arcs. I guess monthly comics can be similar. Movies, at least good movies, are much less of a good fit - it seems a lot easier to do 'Beastmaster' than 'Star Wars' in an RPG. Likewise novels, though novels do allow for more changes of pace than is possible in an adventure movie, but railroading can be a major problem, qv 'DM of the Rings' - or Dragonlance.
