Trailer Fallout - Official Trailer

I'm also amused to note that the writers of the show are obviously vastly better writers than Bethesda (on every possible level), and understand the setting far, far better than Bethesda, ever, ever has. I expected, with Bethesda involvement, for it to be filtered through a Bethesda lens, which is kind of crap and limited one, but it seems like the writers must have at the very least familiarized themselves with FO:NV (I mean there are direct references like being a Courier is still a thing) and possibly FO1/2 because they seem to understand people wouldn't have waited for the Vaults to rebuild, and wouldn't have lived in squalor for centuries just because they weren't from the Vaults.

Anyway, will update once I've seen the last 2 episodes.
You do know that the narrative of "Beth hates New Vegas" is only in the minds of the fans right?

Fans are the worst

You know you didn't actually read my post and responded in an awful knee-jerk way that you should probably apologise for right?

I didn't say anything about "hate", did I? That's 100% on you. That's a thing you made up and then claimed I did.

Bethesda don't hate FO1/2/NV and I didn't say they did.

Bethesda's leadership doesn't understand FO1/2/NV, beyond the most absolutely basic level, and that's what I said, and what you quoted without having read! Come on man!

Bethesda don't understand the themes, they don't understand what's going on in those games story-wise, they don't understand what's interesting about the setting Interplay/Black Isle created. FO3 and FO4 are essentially "cargo cult" versions of FO1. They understood two things really well though - the 1950s-esque aesthetic, the Americana aspect, and the what Vaults are about. That's it. Everything else made them scratch their heads. That's why, for example, FO3's plot and events are such a complete mess and have some of the worst railroading in a Western RPG, despite FO1/2 having had more choice than almost any game before them.

Not understanding something and hating something are completely different things. That you didn't actually think about that, and feel the need to knee-jerk is again, on you. You're behaving like exactly what you're complaining about - someone who doesn't think and just reacts and repeats nonsense like "Beth hates NV".

TLDR: Please don't accuse me of stuff other, dumber, people have said, just because you didn't bother to read!

EDIT - Before any more wild and deeply misdirected accusations are made - it's fine if you like FO3 and FO4, despite them both being railroad-y (even by videogame RPG standards) messes - they are pretty fun to explore in and do stuff, especially FO4. But FO1/2/NV were remarkable because they had a ton of ideas, talked about them intelligently, and offered a ton of choices, including really unconventional ones, and that's what was missing - but is present here. I hope we get an FO5, but not from Bethesda - mostly because they wouldn't even have time to start on it for like 4-5 years given they're working on TESVI.

Seems Bethesda folks were smart enough to know when Nolan and Joy come knocking to make your IP into a show, you shut up and take their money. Let's see if Amazon is smart enough to follow their lead.
Yeah definitely!

I watched the last two episodes, and I can see why some critics are giving it 5/5 or 10/10 or the like. They really pull everything together and a strong, interesting and somewhat complicated ending with a lot of potential for the future. And yeah, it's very clear these writers understand Fallout in way that Bethesda's writers don't.

Given how solid it was, it would be quite difficult for Amazon to screw this up beyond just dropping the budget a huge amount. I think that's the only major risk so long as the keep the same showrunners/writers/cast.

Also I really do want to shout out the writers for:

A) Managing to have so many characters and storylines, without making it confusing or annoying or you starting to get antsy that you've haven't seen anything from X viewpoint for a while - a lot of writing teams can't manage this.

B) Handling all the reveals and big ideas and so on so well.

C) I mentioned this before, but handling exposition extremely well. They just continue doing this - this is also on the showrunners and the rest of the crew because a ton of stuff is explained in this visually, and not with words/

D) Keeping an appropriately Fallout level of humour and knowing when to be funny and when not. I mean, this should be a basic skill for writers, but it's often MIA.

So yeah, impressed. Also the last bit of the ending:

I don't believe in the no-win scenario

If Amazon switches to weekly releases for season 2, get ready for a solid drop in quality. Every time they meddle with an outside production, it ends very badly. I am keeping my fingers crossed, but I have zero faith in Amazon.

That said, Season 1 was much much better than I could have expected. The writing was whip smart, entertaining, and at times unpredictable. They stuck to as many tropes as they did subvert them, and I was honestly guessing where the next scene was gonna go. Bravo.

I finished the series and enjoyed it quite a bit. When I started watching, my wife walked in and said, "Do I have to watch you play that again?" Fallout 3 was the first game I bought for my X-Box back in 2008. I've been a big fan of the games since the original in 1997 but I haven't played any of the Fallout Tactics games. With the start of FO3, I feel like Bethesda went to a more goofy setting. Don't get me wrong, between Hubologist, being able to star in your own porno, and Myron the series was kind of goofy. But FO3 became a bit more cartoonish with being able to find 200+ year old food you could eat, wooden houses in suburbia still standing, and of course the music. Other than the opening scenes, the music in FO 1 and 2 were a bit more industrial and not the retro 40s-60s sound.

But this thread is about the Amazon series not the games. It's an entertaining series and I'm looking forward to the next season. I'm a little worried this might end up like some of my other shows that have ended prematurely, but we'll see. I don't mind the changes made as none of them seem to conflict so much with the games' settings as to fundamentally change what I would expect from Fallout.

Slammed the series over 2 days, I thought it was brilliant and am eagerly awaiting season 2. Apparently the number of players is the gashes increased by 200%, I'm one of those players. Fallout 4 is getting some updates and I can only assume the release of this update is due to the series.

WotC President Runner-Up.
I just finished the last episode.

This show is fantastic!

Back to the person early on who asked if there were any recognizable actors in it..

My girlfriend watched half an episode and said Moises Arias was a major role in Hannah Montana. So there's that.

I was also pleasantly surprised to see Chris Parnell have a small but enjoyable role. I know him mostly from Archer, but he's probably mostly known from Rick and Morty these days. Either way, keep an eye out for him.

But this show.. Wow.. I'm not as big of a Fallout fan as many other on here it seems. I've played 3, NV, and 4.. So none of the older isometric ones. This makes me really want to though.

It was a really fun show I just didn't want to end. Whenever you see these multi POV stories there's usually at least one character that bores me to tears and I sit there waiting to get past them, but not here. All three of the major characters were so much fun, and even the smaller cutaway PoV was so interesting. I couldn't get enough of any of them.

Also, it's a gorgeous show. Do I have a bad eye for this, or was a majority of it all practical? The sets, the make up, a lot of the gore all felt really good, and not like cheap green screen. My girlfriend and I have also been watching the Wheel of Time, and while I enjoy it some of the effects feel not so great. It makes me think of the fantasy shows from my youth like Xena or Charmed. Just a little cheesy.

It feels like Amazon pulled out all the stops here, and I really hope they don't try to save a few bucks in production for season 2 at the detriment of the quality.

Halfway through the series, just finished E4. My only Fallout gaming experience was Fallout 4, and ... got about halfway through before I stopped playing.

Enjoying the show well enough
