Feat: Psionic Reserve

Psionic Reserve [Psionic]
Some psions understand how to increase their Psionic Reserves as they grow more experienced.
Requirements: 5 Ranks KN: Psionics, Able to manifest 2nd level powers.
Benifit: You gain 1 PP per HD
Benifit: You gain 1 PP per 2 HD. Rounded down.
Note: This feat my only be purchased once.

I think it's fairly well balanced, offers better benifits for non-full psionic casters, and is actualy a bit more usefull than wild talent.

Thoughts?

Edit: Cut benifit in half, which I think balances the feat a bit more.

Hmm...by the time you can grab this, it is automatically superior to the +2 PP feat, and keeps getting better. Approving this would be admitting that we think the current feat is underpowered for a feat. Before we approve this, shouldn't we make up an Improved Toughness that gives 1 HP / level? It's the same general principle, but useful for more characters.

I'm not against that...

I pondered making this 1 PP per 2 HD, but that seemed a bit... underwhealming.

Seeing that nobody takes Toughness and not everybody takes Improved Toughness I believe that IT is a good feat; good enough to be worth taking but not a no-brainer.

Yeah, that's where I see this (unlike Wild Tallent or the other one that gives you 2 per feat).

Heck, Psionic Body is better than toughness for the most part once you get your second psionic feat.

I would vote yes both for this and an Improved Toughness. Toughness is, in my opinion, one of the worst feats in the game, and I've never known anybody to take it (except to satisfy a prereq for a PrC).

I don't want regular spellcasters to feel neglected, however. They use spells in a more complicated way than can be improved upon with just "1pp/HD". Is there some kind of similar feat for spellcasters' spells per day?

Not a good one, and that's realy the problem. Though, didn't I have a feat out there that gave sorcerers and wizards another slot? I'll have to check the rules. EDIT: Nope. Lots of stuff by me, but not that.

The other version of this I had batted around was +4 to your level for determining your PP bonus from your main stat, up to your HD (Basicly, a PP boost only version of practiced manifester). That had the potential to give a lot more PP, but only to multi-class psions.

The closest thing is a feat published in Tome and Blood and I believe reprinted in Complete arcane, that grants you an extra spell slot 1 level lower than the maximum level you can cast when you adquire the feat. I don't like the mechanics very much, since the feat's effectivenes depends on when you buy it (opposed to just being more or less effective at different levels) Of course the proposal could be different.

Roughly speaking, the arcane equivalent of "+1 pp/manifester level" would grant one of your spellcasting classes an extra spell slot of the highest level he can cast.

Which may mean it's too powerful...

I put it up for discussion intentionaly. I want it balanced. PPs and HPs though are a different matter entirely.

Spellcasters have other things going for them though. Specialists get bonus spells. Domain spells for clerics. Metamagic feats that are a bit more usable (I'm not a fan of blowing focus to use metapsionics as well as points), feats that give DC and penetration bonuses that work better.

Neglected they need not feel, as they get more attention than most. That's not to say they shouldn't be addressed, but if every psionic ability is matched with a spellcasting ability, and vice versa, why have them separate at all?
