OOC: Lobo, just to keep things moving I'm going to repeat your last action
Adam faced the huge beast before him without apparent fear, hoping to distract it long enough to let his colleges finish it off. Unfortunately the beast was a more wiley fighter than it looked: he dodged the snapping jaws and the first swipe of claws as the beast rose up on it's back legs only to discover he'd been set up perfectly to take the blow from the other paw. Blood splattered to the ground from the rip in his back, but he managed to stay on his feet dispite the pain (-10hp).
Watching the beast claw it's way into his team mate, Law decided that the proven technique of 'throw more lead' was worth repeating. He watched with satisfaction as at least four rounds slammed into the beast, and then with shock as it kept it's footing. That skin was tougher than it looked, and it looked pretty tough to begin with.
So it was left to Timo to take advantage of the beasts distraction, calmly following through the set routine of the snipers shot and taking the monster in the head. It slumped to the ground, unconscious and bleeding, but the raise and fall of it's huge torso left no-one in doubt as to wether it had survived.
Richard, pushing aside the piece of wreckage he lay under rose to his feet. Practised professional that he was, he quickly noticed that while most of those standing were injured, none of the injuries were life threatening. There had been 12 of them transported, though, which left a number still buried in this wreckage just as he'd been. He recognised the two bodies as Manticores: creatures from medieval legend brought to life.
As the adrenaline rush of the fight fades, our heroes get their first chance to take in the wider surroundings. Washington had been a large facility with a staff of over a hundred. In it's original artic local, supports had been driven deep into the ice and snow to act as foundations in the shifting terrain. Here, those same spikes supported the buildings twenty foot up in the air, at the same altitude the prefab hut had initially appeared. Five buildings in total made up the base: the research labs themselves (including medical facilities), the dorms, a social building, the armoury (and other dangerous/restricted material storage) and a large power generator. In the artic, covered tunnels had connected the buildings, but these had fallen under their own weight after the transition, and each building stood tall as a seperate tower. The only contacts were drooping arcs of power cabling.
Climbing up to the buildings doesn't look too hard, but there is a nasty overhang at the top of the support to get to the entrance (Climb DC 5 to get up the support, DC 15 to get to the entrance falling on a 5 or less).
The entire ensemble sits in the middle of a sunlit, sparesly vegetated plain. Mountains can be seen on the western horizon, and a smudge of green to the north could be a distant forest. South and west the plains heads on, gently undulating, for as far as the eye can see.
