They both fall in the 'condiment' category for me.

It surprises me that salt spoils, though. :confused: It is, after all, a preservative.

I don't believe that salt actually "spoils" per say, more like it has the ability to absorb things that we shouldn't eat. Spoiling would be a form of decomposition and rocks (which is what salt is) don't decompose, they erode or wear.

I don't think salt 'spoils' per se; it just becomes less adept as a preservative or condiment ... but then that's like saying that escalators don't break; they just become stairs.
