George Romero directing some episodes of the Walking Dead?

"Up yours", essentially.

“They asked me to do a couple of episodes of The Walking Dead but I didn’t want to be a part of it,” Romero told The Big Issue. “Basically it’s just a soap opera with a zombie occasionally. I always used the zombie as a character for satire or a political criticism and I find that missing in what’s happening now.”

I removed the font and color specs from the quote in the OP, to make it legible on the black site skin some folks use. Hope you don't mind too much.

Romero doesn't seem to realize that what works for a movie does not necessarily work for a long-running TV serial. Of course they don't use the zombies for a particular point of satire or political commentary. There's only so long you can carry forward a particular satire or criticism before it gets old! In a movie, you can have a single message. A long-running TV show needs a far more nuanced and flexible approach to symbolism if it is to succeed.
