The balance has been upset. A local group of druids of balance have found that there is a growing shift towards chaos and evil in the region outside Dameran Mountain. The forests and wilderness which they call home is gradually shifting towards a feral and vicious nature. The plants and animals have changed both actions and now appearance, becoming dangerous to the sentient races that dwell within. Because the druids fear any outside intervention from the nearby duchy of Koratia, they have attempted to control the wild beasts and other strange new creatures within their domains. At first, they tried to seek out the source of evil, but they have found that they proved both too weak and spread too thin to control the wilds and dig out the vile rotting of the land. "It is in the mountains, that much I know. I was turned back by the magic blasphemy of the creatures in the mountains, and I fear for the sake of the land. We must maintain the balance, and call upon outsiders to aid our plight."

In an effort to conceal the secrets of their circle, they have searched far and wide for powerful individuals both local enough to be contacted, but who would also be ameniable to the Druids belief in minimal outside interference. This is why they turn to you, call upon your abilities. They wish for someone strong and of good will to seek out the evil hidden inside of the mountains inside their domain. While the druids continue to hold the dangerous wild beasts back from escaping the holy domain of the druids circle, they wait for message to return of your success. They hope and wait, and meanwhile you adventure into the mountains the Druids will be fighting to control the new beasts and monsters throughout the wilds.

Your search has brought you to a cavern with rough granite walls near the peaks of one of the talest mountains in the range. A dark liquid flows down the walls in rivulets. At the far end of the cavern are smooth, ebony double doors standing ten feet high. Flanking the doors are identical, eight-foot tall statues of a woman cradling a baby in her arms.

Aemon examines the gates and statues, trying to see if he can recall anything similar in his tribe's legends. (OOC: Bardic Knowledge) "Do you think these gates are to keep us out, or to keep something in?"

(28) Bardic Knowledge

Though the cavern itself is not part of any legends you can recall, you do know that there are legends of portals leading to realms of pure hatred, chaos, and evil in the depths of the mountains where Duergar once ruled a small but powerful kingdom. These places have long been abandoned, though every few decades new features have revealed themselves that have never been known to exist before. Only six years ago, people say that a new mountain rose out of the ground, knocking all of the other stone mountains up so that they point away from the new mountain. The mountain that supposedly rose during this incident is called the Crown of Lorg, and is within eyesight of the cavern's entrance.

Aemon chants briefly, asking that his eyes be allowed to see ensorcelments (OOC: casts, detect magic). He then examines the doors, statues, and black goop.

From a distance, the "black goop" appears to be a thick dull black ooze dripping from holes in the top of the walls. Nearing the fluid, it appears much more red until within 15 feet it is seems to have changed both color and thickness to exactly that of blood. Anyone at 15 feet can tell precisely this, while those farther away still see the thick "black goop."

Detect Magic:

(17) There is one magical aura coming from the walls, it is an illusion of some strength, but certainly not one of any real power.

Aemon walks up to the door confidently after tossing a rock towards the door and seeing no result. When he gets to the door and tries to yank the door open, it doesn't budge. The door is, indeed, locked.

"Whoops. Heh. Tammarian, I believe this is your cue."

Ikobian (Ghost Rogue/Sorcerer)

Ikobian, at the moment clad in the flesh of a strong but inexperienced young warrior, walks up towards the door and places his open palm against it. Leaving the Dominated human shell behind he demanifests and travels trough the door in the ethereal, to scout ahead. The human he posessed (and who he before now has impersonated before the members of the party and their employers) mumbles something nearly incomprehensible about evil powers and seems to focus inwards in meditation.
