Here's the full announcement!

The Warhammer Fantasy Roleplay Fourth Edition pre-order opens later this week! To whet your appetite, here are 4 things you can expect from the new edition of this beloved game.

Your Warhammer for You!
Something that is really core to our WFRP is that we’ve created tools for you to play your Warhammer Fantasy Roleplay. We recognise and support that everyone plays their own version of the rules and the setting, and we fully embrace and encourage that. It’s your game! With 30 years of history under its belt, Warhammer Fantasy Roleplay means a lot of things to a huge number of players.

Ideal starting point
Not much experience with RPGs? The Warhammer Fantasy Roleplay Starter Set is designed to be the ideal introduction, with a structured adventure to help you learn how to play. Also containing a guide to Ubersreik, there’s loads of gaming material for more experienced GMs too!

System matters
WFRP4 uses ten-sided dice, and a tuned-up version of the familiar d100 system. You can tailor the rules to your preferences or different in-game situations, choosing from a menu of fast ‘roll under’ Simple Tests, Dramatic Tests giving success levels where you need more than a ‘yes or no’ result, and even barely rolling at all, if that’s your style.

Passion for Warhammer
Our creative team are lifelong players of the three previous editions of the game, and between us we’ve worked on all these editions too! We bloomin’ love Warhammer, and we think it shows.

We’ll be bringing you more on WFRP4 regularly, so watch this space! And, very excitingly, pre-orders go live on Thursday…

Keep an eye out for the pre-orders to open tomorrow at the Cubicle 7 store!

The whiff factor was pretty strong with starting characters in 1E.
22-40 was the human stat range for WS. Some races were 10 higher.
Charging was +10
Advantage of ground/position +10
Winning +10
Certain weapons were +10, most ±0, others -10 or -20.
Obstacle -10
Off-handed -10
Unarmed -20

Experience could add up to 40 (in the right careers), swamping the +30 conditionals, and matching the +40 maximum with weapon.

OK. Fair enough. My definition of whiff factor varies from yours. No big deal. 1e combat was a blast for us.

I am a little concerned the new system's combat is a bit too fiddly.

Given typical situations, average men (33 by the book, 31 by the math) will have a 43% chance to hit with most weapons. Their opponent will have a (typically) 43% chance of parry (assuming an off-hand main gauche for parrying).

So, 0.43 × (1-0.43) = 0.43 × 0.67 = 0.2881... about 2 in 7 attacks hits.

At the upper end:
80 WS vs 80 WS... 90% chance of hit if winning, and 100% chance of main gauche parry, plus enough magic armor that only righteous fury is important.

No doubt you have to hit a skilled opponent numerous times. Better not get outnumbered. You have to get an opponent to use up their parries and dodges.

We did not have magical armor in our games typically.

Like I said - our experience was different than yours.

The PDF should be out in a week, preview version, and they'll take errata etc from the public before it get's sent to the printer - something I really like. 100 fans are better than any proof reader IME.

In preparation for the launch of the Warhammer Fantasy Roleplay Rulebook in PDF, we have made a pre-order page on DrivethruRPG and RPGNow. This won’t be a long pre-order period, the PDF will be uploaded within a week – the pre-order means everyone can receive the PDF at the same time.

The PDF preorder page is here: http://www.drivethrurpg.com/product...oleplay-Rulebook-PREORDER?affiliate_id=169435

We offer a complimentary PDF with the physical book when you buy from a retailer participating in the Bits and Mortar scheme, or from the Cubicle 7 webstore. Directly from us, the PDF is delivered through DrivethruRPG/RPGNow, and because we feel it’s important that pre-order customers don’t have to wait while we send out links to their copy, we set it up in advance so that everyone gets access to the book at the same time.

You can find out more about the book pre-orders here http://shop.cubicle7store.com/epage...47_shop/Categories/Warhammer_Fantasy_Roleplay

The rulebook is almost complete, but so you don’t have to wait any longer than strictly necessary, we’ll first release a preview edition, which is complete apart from the last map (which will be in the endpapers of the book) and the index (we want to make a great index, and that is a lengthy process!). Unless there’s a disaster, these last parts will be completed within 2 weeks and the complete PDF will be re-uploaded for you.

Not only does this mean that you can have a look as soon as possible, it also means a greater opportunity for any errors or omissions you spot to be incorporated before we go to print.

Well the pre order PDF is available. So can I finish it before the Pathfinder 2 playtest is out on the 2nd? Oh I also need to re read Runequest 3 and the Vikings supplement in that time for a game starting Thursday.... I need to not work, is really interfering with my gaming!

Some of the jokes in it are 'funny as, bro'. The art is amazing, this is one beautiful book, and so evocative. I'm really enjoying the official tourist blurb of each region, which is accompanied by the actual view of a citizen /denizen! The game seems very crunchy, it'll take a bit too get my head around because I have been out of the Warhammer rules set for a while.

Acronyms: The rulebook avoids them as much as possible, but it's important in roleplaying games (RPGs) like Warhammer Fantasy Roleplay (WFRP — we pronounce it WuffRupp)

She was the victim of a most unfortunate accident involving a bedpan, a wilted stick of celery, and a nasty fall.
