D&D 5E Hold Back The Night [OOC]

Hm! Interesting. One possible tie-in; Elves live long enough that Grandfather might have known her parents...though if her people weren't involving themselves in the fight, he may not have had much business with them. Then again, he might have showed up at their doorstep trying to enlist them. :)

Aces. You are so cool Quickleaf

I'll post up my story by tomorrow night and we'll chat about it. There's a million and one ways we could know each other... including the one you posted in your background if you really want to go there.

No, no, you're so cool! Cool like a Peltier cooler module! B-)

I think the idea of including humiliation is very apropos of the sort of abuse of power that would emerge in the dark scenario Jago has pitched. However, it could be distinctly uncomfortable to RP. Or it could be wondrously dark. Maybe both.

I think Jago mentioned this story as being "Rated R"? But I'm very flexible. Having broken her last lute over Fitz's head after he heckled her works quite well too, as it exemplifies what a curmudgeon he is & the way folks look down on the "Rumpels."

Also I would be interested in being the PC in Quickleaf's 3rd proposed character connection, where Rana would have stayed Fitz's hand in poisoning anyone, though she is neither a party leader type nor a party face type. She is a lawful good healer, though.

Great character background! Yes, that connection between Rana & Fitz works well since they're both LG. He had a chance to fall from the path of being Lawful Good, and Rana buoyed him up and connected him to a larger group.

I'm going to draw a shameless comparison between Rana and the DC Comics Television character Claire Temple. Claire basically provides medical care to Daredevil, Luke Cage, Jessica Jones, and possibly Iron Fist. I wonder if Rana, as the last magical healer hidden in The City, might fulfill a similar role? Thus providing a way to connect some of our PCs who don't have developed interwoven backgrounds? It could make a really powerful opening adventure hook too Jago - a threat to Rana's medical clinic, bodies disappearing, etc.

Hm, I need to think about how to tangle myself up with you bunch of whippersnappers too...

What if Fitz, clueless about Grandfather's true nature, offered him a little clockwork toy or music box. Maybe, due to the need of the device to receive 1 hour labor to stay functioning every 24 hours, this kept Grandfather (under his current "kid" identity) in touch with Fitz. Grandfather might use the excuse of "getting my toy fixed" to suss out whether Fitz might have a role to play in the great fight that Grandfather is seeking allies in? Just an idea!

Possibly.

Maybe Grandfather even subtly encouraged Fitz to go in the direction of rebellion? He's not a charisma beast, but sound logic from the mouths of babes might seem to carry extra weight for someone already wobbling on the fence..

Also considering respeccing to a Circle of the Moon. I figure Grandfather may sometimes go either direction...and it might suit us better mechanically to have an off tank than to have another specialist support caster. And it could work with his more warlike purpose.

Yes, I love all of those ideas, and would very much welcome the all-encompassing connection that each character, being the ill-fated heroes of the game, have at one point or another gone to Rána for healing. I'd love to play the part of Claire to your Daredevils and Jessica Jones's.

If it fits the character, I am 100% for it. However, don't go chasing waterfalls just because you think the GM demands "party balance" or the like. You folks could all be Rangers, or not have a single Spellcaster, and we'd still have a good game.

In fact, that gives me an idea for another game, but that is neither here nor there.

Point is, ReSpec if you are not happy with your character: let me worry about party composition, which is already pretty heavily diverse: Barbarian, Fighter-Mage, Healing Cleric, Spell-Focused Druid, Utility Wizard, and Social Bard.

As I've said about my GM style before, I generally don't like the idea of "Oh, NOBODY played a Rogue and the highest party perception is a 2? Well guess what, the next dungeon is literally nothing but traps. Reflex Save or 6d4, chums!"
Instead, I much more enjoy looking at what the party can bring to the table and then designing interesting scenarios around what is in the realm of possibility for you folks. Doesn't mean every single encounter is fine-tuned to the group, and indeed there may be things that are exceedingly challenging if not impossible to overcome for what the party has available, but the point is, if all of you decided "We're all going to be Fighters", I would not start the "Wis Save Or Die" game.

That being said, the Setting does lend itself to a much more brutal and oppressive atmosphere, so I'm not always going to be very fair, either. I love everyone's characters, but I am not above killing off the person who thinks it wise to start attacking Magi Officers whenever they see them.

Loving the connections here so far and the stories springing from them. Definitely digging the idea of like Rana's House of Healing and Lorelei's, uhm, "Entertainment Tavern", The Velvet Rose, to be places that the Characters either have met at or routinely frequent in their clandestine activities.

I'm trying to figure out how Teryn could link with some of the other characters. I need to read through the back stories a bit to see.

There are a few I can think of off the top of my head.

Teryn and Fitz are both learned folk who have worked for The Magi in their lives: they could have met in some scholarly capacity, or had worked on a project together. Alternatively, it could have been Fitz's golems that killed Teryn's wife and son.

As pointed out by Quickleaf, with Teryn being a very Street-Hero type of character, he may have been badly wounded after a scrap with a Magi patrol and brought to Rana to be healed, showing both of them that there were other people out there willing to fight.

Also, with Teryn drowning himself in alcohol, he's more than likely would up at Queenie's character's bar, The Velvet Rose, on more than one occasion (seeing as it looks like it will be the most prominent source of liquor and stress relief in the Sector you folks are in).

Also, when you can, I need Teryn's Personality Traits, Ideal, Bond, and Flaw on the sheet you've posted up.

Queenie

Queen of Everything
As Jago mention, the Velvet Rose is our sector's only establishment for alcohol, gambling, entertainment: music and dancing, and of course the more "social" activities. There is also a basement but who knows what activities go on down there... if you're a regular you might have an idea...

Lorelei, my character, is the top performer at the Velvet Rose. I can answer any questions you might have for the time being while I apologize profusely for not having my background up. The circus has come to town at my house and life has ... momentarily... gone insane. Yes, this happens way too often. I'm sorry :(

That all works very well, thank you. I imagine he's spent a good deal of time at Queenie's place, especially since losing everything.

DM, I'll get those up here pretty quick.
