Holy Riders: The Cavalier's Guide (By Litigation)

This guide was taken from the old Wizards of the Coast forums before they were shut down and it looks like a few things could be added here that might not have existed when this guide was originally written. The Heroic tier talent Devout Protector Expertise would be excellent for a Cavalier, or ANY divine class that is proficient with a shield. It gives you a +1/2/3 feat bonus per tier to hit with all one-handed weapons and holy symbols. It also gives your allies a +1 shield bonus to AC whenever you have a shield (light or heavy) equipped. It does not specify any range on this, but I would rule you would have to be conscious and be in line of sight for folks to gain this benefit. Keep in mind that shield bonuses to AC do not stack, so someone already wielding a shield, a warlock with the Rod Expertise feat, etc. would not benefit from this.

Another thing you could add would be to use a lance when mounting up in combat. It is a +2 proficiency 1d10 weapon in the spear category. It is the only weapon with the Mounted keyword, which lets you deal an additional 1[W] damage (1d10) when hitting with a charge attack while mounted. A lance with the Vanguard Weapon enchant (+1d6 damage while charging) can really allow your Cavalier to administer justice where it is needed when paired with other items and feats to make your charges more lethal. The only downside to a lance is that you suffer a -2 penalty to attack rolls while not mounted.
