Brak frowned. "If we mean to stay, we probably shouldn't stay here. No reason for us to add to these folks' troubles." Visions of the Iron Guard riding destroyers laying waste to this farmstead in search of he and his companions danced through the warrior's head.

Tirion listened to the tales of orc troubles in the area. That was to be expected. He would love to help them out with that, but their mission called them south. Of course, that was the direction of the trouble, so perhaps they could help a bit if they were attacked and dispatched some orcs.

Tirion felt the bear story curious. That seemed unusual activity for a wild animal, though Tirion had little direct knowledge of bears and their natural behaviour. Tirion looked to Evendur with a bit of surprise.

“You wish to...chat with a bear?” the cleric asked. He wasn’t sure what the rogue was getting at. “Perhaps we can keep an eye out for the bear as we make our way to Farmer Hakan’s place,” he suggested.

Evendur considers Tirion's comments and with a sigh nods. "We probably cannot afford to hang around, so let us go get some mounts then?"

"I think you may be right about the bear seeking for its companion if it isn't the same bear we saw. How many such strange bears can their be in these parts? Still it isn't really why we are here. I think we should go on and seek more mounts."

Tirion shrugged at Kelvyn. “If we see the bear, or tracks, we can perhaps investigate. It has not harmed anyone yet. We will keep our eyes open, though,” the cleric reassured the farmer. “Thank you again for your hospitality.”

Turning back to the others, he said quietly, “Let us be on our way. Word of our staying here might reach the village and we would not wish ill upon these good folks.”

[sblock=OOC]I’m not sure Tirion noticed anything untoward about the bear in the pit, so I’m playing him ignorant. (Pretty sure I blew that roll LOL) It wasn’t what he was focused on. If anyone informs him of their suspicions, he would probably be more than willing to investigate.[/sblock]

"Well said Tirion. Two strange bears so close to each other can't be a coincidence. And it troubles me that one of them is linked to these slavers. But until we have further information we should continue on our current quest," Levanna agreed. She frowned and raised a curled finger to her chin while deep in thought.

[sblock=Actions]Levanna will try to recall any information she can about bears behaving in this strange manner.

Thinking back, Levanna can't really think of anything particular. She knows that werebears are suppose to have human intelligence but then also there are spells like Polymorph that could change an intelligence creature into a bear, but they generally are not permanent or long lasting.

Meanwhile the homesteader just nods his head and heads back to the main house. The rest of the group, having packed up their gear, starts following the trail into the south-western hills.

They pass two other fortified homesteads within half or three-quarters of a mile from each other and see a number of young men and women in the hills watching them while they tend to their cattle and goats. Passing on they continue their travels down the trail, they notice a number of signal towers here and there way up on the highest hills. There are fewer livestock about but the group sees tracks of the passage of a number of animals back and forth over the trail.

Around midday Cedric White does indeed find tracks for an extremely large bear, he mentions maybe it come be a cave bear, or even an owlbear by the size of the prints. They lead into the hills heading almost straight west (the trail you are traveling on is heading south-west).

The group also can see some smoke over the next hill... it appears to be only chimney smoke and probably indicates another homestead just out of sight.

“Well, here are your bear tracks,” Tirion mused. He looked between where they headed off west and the trail and the smoke off to the southwest. “And I bet that is the homestead. It doesn’t seem too far out of our way if you think we have cause to check in on it,” he offered the others.
