D&D 5E [IC] THE CURSE OF AMBERSTAR

Neurotic

I plan on living forever. Or die trying.
To the giantess, continuing their discussion.
"It was maybe badly worded, but you said yourself, you're here because you don't believe you can live outside. Thus, you serve as warriors and protectors against monsters and demons in here. Instead of leaving this place and living in relative peace and prosperity in the wilderness or cities as your inclination may be. You're a bit too big to live with us underground, most people there are of small stature. There are exception and there are monsters this size..." he knocks on Tinks armor (remember: it is hook horror)
"...only in the flesh, obviously."

As the elevator shudders to sudden stop, metal monster taking half the space in the cabin lifts up for a short moment and starts scrabbling for purchase. In the next instant it crashes down, his legs out of alignment and it falls on its side. On the other hand its owner simply sways in place, his legs not even leaving the space they occupied.

Thulwar motions toward the mangled piece of armor. "Sure thing, Yttrian, take it with you, I'll take a look when we settle somewhere. Take two if you can or attach it to Tink. Better chance of having all the parts in two mangled ones."

He looks up "What do you think, could that figment lady lower us to the next lower level? Or should we just climb up and hope the cabin holds long enough? I think it is safer to drop to lower level."

The sudden stop comes unexpectedly, but Aanzu was focused on his surroundings and therefore able to react quickly. Both his feet come off the ground and both are planted back down within the blink of an eye, taking a firm position to stand.

"Is the throne here, or do the lizards need to climb up further?" Not having listened much to the talking machine, the dragonborn is not sure where to go now and instead turns to his allies for guidance.

"I admit it makes sense." - Embla says - "But why would the Teraphim resort to such dishonored behavior, when they might rely on the unrelenting loyalty of my people? The people of Vanirskeep would never break an oath, especially in a time of great need." - her answer is followed by a long silence, interrupted by the sudden shock at the elevator's trajectory.

EVERYONE

Amberilan's voice blasts out of the platform's comm systems, as if unclogging something long unused. The shock brought Lyllie and the miners down, but Embla and Yttrian still stand.

"I'm sorry for that. A security command of unknown origin brought the elevator to a halt. It seems I cannot move it. It might be a measure taken during the alterations in the upper command center, as I..." - before she can finish, four distinct sets of strong lights come alive in the lower floor, exploding luminosity right after a heavy trigger sound. The light is sudden and intense, and it targets the elevator directly, menacing to blind the unlucky heroes! The sources of the potent white lights begin to rumble all of a sudden, just as kickstarted machines would.

[That's the second one! CON save against 12! In case of failure, blinded by two turns.]

"WARNING: terraforming suit units engaged!" - Amberilan's voice interrupts itself with the stern warning. Around the white lights, red spinlights cover the lower floor, as if to intensify the warning.

"WARNING: frontal access to Altar Hall opened! WARNING: west door access to Altar Hall opened! WARNING: terraforming facility access to Altar Hall opened! WARNING: unidentified humanoid group moving towards the facility. Location: Altar Hall, west access. Engaging circumventing measure protocol." - before she can continue the conversation, an alarm breaks out, with successive warnings taking over her voice. The elevator's panel comes on, flickering, showing the maps for the many levels accessible to the heroes.

[The maps show that the room labeled 'Teraphim Altar' - or Altar Hall, as she calls it - Is being invaded through the western door by a large force of cold-bodied humanoids. They're quickly twisting their movement towards north, ready to invade the round hall named 'inner sanctum' - the place where you first met Amberilan. All doors are opened and, in time, they can reach the elevator. Also, on the inner sanctum series of maps, the one labeled 'Terraforming Station' (Level +1) is marked as the origin of the strong lights and the terraforming suits movement. The elevator's stuck between +1 and +2, the objective being to reach +3 - above +2. obviously.]

Amberilan's voice assumes its original, unassuming tone.

"We have a breach! Security protocols have been overhauled. Access to the terraforming facility has been granted towards the Altar Hall, where we first met. Circumventing measures are not working!" - her tone is still harmonic, but the message delivers an intensity not visible on her before.

[Ok, I still gotta have Greenmtn's tests. industrygothica's will be on me until return. Notice that this takes only a few seconds. If anyone left prone wants to rise to his or her own feet before the lights hit, roll for acrobatics, DC10. And the world around our heroes just explodes. :)]

Being alert for danger, Aanzu manages to avoid his gaze from the blinding lights just in time, although some spots dance in his vision.

The dragonborn roars in defiance, the sound echoing through the strange halls, for a moment drowning out the incessant voice messages. "None challenge the Great Blue Dragon and live! Let them come!"

The great machine heaves itself upright just in time to protect its master from the glare. But Tinks mechanical eyes have no reflex to shut the eyes to protect them. The machine detects the overload and lowers the metal protectors, but the damage is already done with magical sensors temporarily overloaded.

"We need to move out of this box! We're trapped here for anything that cares to splash us with anything! Tink! Forward! Crouch low!"
OOC: if anything is about to attack, let them waste attacks on the machine.

Harfik Human Monk

As the elevator comes to a stop Harfik sways and shifts to an alarmed and alert stance, instinctively looking for threats, muscles tense. Listening to the warnings as he scans the area around him he looks up for some kind of door in the ceiling, just as a bright light flashes. He yells in pain and covers his eyes with his arm monetarily when he reopens them everything is blurry, washed out by the lights. he fights without success to get them to focus on... anything.

"Ahh! I can't see. We need to get out of here.

EVERYONE

The noise grows as the pavement shakes under the pressure of heavy metallic steps. The humanoid machines are on the move, their lights still bathing the elevator as they approach! Tink leaps forward, claw-like arms expecting the battle to come. The others resisted the sudden flash, and ready themselves as well. Yttrian goes to the back, entering a shooting stance as he marks the potential area of approach; Lyllie stands by his side, preparing gods-know-what spells to unleash upon the cursed machines; the miners pull the child to the other side of the elevator, as Embla leaps forward, profiting from Tink's cover as she prepares to a brutal sword fight.

Harfik overhears everything. His hearing seems to grow more intense as his vision is taken for a few seconds. With the eye of his mind, the monk sees the machines moving forward, and underneath their infernal noise he keeps listening to a second set of sounds, humming and approaching from below the pavement....

But before he can warn anyone, the giant machines attack! Barely visible, they give the impression of being giant mechanical golems, their arms assuming strange shapes as they approach. The first one jumps towards the elevator, charging towards its side. The entity does not attack the heroes immediately, going for the carcass of the elevator instead! A beam of light - as brilliant and red as a scorching ray - comes from the creature's arm and begins to cut the safety locks of the elevator! the second one does the very same thing, intensifying the effort! As the piece begins to suffer from the effort, the elevator shudders and moans, as if taken out of its tracks.

[The creatures are clearly trying to bring the elevator down. The platform is cylinder-shaped, having fifteen feet of total height. If anyone wants more details on the nature of the materials and points of support for the elevator, just give me a perception or investigation test (DC15). For the golems' intentions and strategy, a insight test is possible 9DC 15, again).]

"Everybody out! Lyllie, can you create mist or something to disperse the light?! Tink, forward, to the left and swipe up and across!"

The alchemist tears off his cloak as he prepares one of his bombs. Instead of chucking it directly at the enemy, he mashes it into the cloth as he throws it in front of the machine. It may not harm the machine much (if at all), but if it breaks, burning cloth might, just might, create enough smoke to weaken the beam. Or even to throw off the aim of the monster. If he should be so lucky.

[sblock=Actions]
Tink
Move: Tink already moved out and continues toward the first beam-cutting machine
Attack with disadvantage (blind)
Tink claw attack w/ disadv vs laser machine; damage: 2D20.LOW(1)+6 = [9, 18]+6 = 15; 2D6+5 = [6, 5]+5 = 16 - roll STR save DC 14 or prone
Bite vs machine; damage: 1D20+6 = [6]+6 = 12;1D10+5 = [5]+5 = 10 <-- if prone

Thulwar
Move: Thulwar gets out of the elevator and moves to the left behind Tink
Investigation: 1D20+7 = [1]+7 = 8
Insight: 1D20+0 = [10]+0 = 10

Bonus: Cloth crumpling
Attack: Fire flask vs right golem; fire damage: 1D20+7 = [5]+7 = 12;2D6 = [4, 3] = 7

"Careful," Aanzu warns the others, "Machines want the lizards to fall. Climb or fly!"

The dragonborn runs up to one of the machines and jumps, trying to climb on top of it before attacking.
