D&D 5E Ideas for STR-based rogue archetype

The main downfall of the character was the fact his AC was so terrible. The DM suggested allowing Str rogues to use medium armor and ignore the disadvantage to stealth. That works out pretty well. Our groups don't care much for weapon restrictions, if it presents no mechanical advantage, you can sneak attack with most things.

There's not much reason to restrict medium armor to 'strength' rogues - just let all of them have it. All it does is make a non-dex rogue more viable - it's not going to overpower anything.

I would probably also not allow them to ignore the disadvantage to stealth - they can choose to go with the stealthy medium armors or pick up a feat to ignore the penalty. This is more in the interest of not polluting the rules with unnecessary exceptions.

I have an idea for a strenght based rogue grappler arcane trickster. Using the spells shadow blade and Green flame blade or booming blade. You can do incredible damage, and once you get a hold of someone you don't have to let go till he is dead. dragg him over to another enemy and use green flame blade with your shadow blade. Get the most out of the package. Pick spells that don't require saves and you won't need intelligence. So you won't be MAD. It's verry OP, but gives you a lot of play options.
