If You Had to do a Gith storyline, What would it be like?

I'm uncertain how I'd want to handle it. It needs to be an adventure that covers several level bands, and can't just be the Githyanki as opponents or players would get bored. There has to be some exploratory of other aspect that consumes the early levels of the campaign. But then climaxes in a Githyanki invasion and requires a trip to the city of Tu'narath to face their queen, Vlaakith.

Putting the mind flayers front and center works for that. Some aberrant threat that the players get caught in the middle of, and half-solve but attracts the attention of the Lich Queen.
Or, perhaps, the queen is an ally needed to confront the illithids, with the true enemy being an Elder Brain.

Hrm... the WotC team do like to mash up multiple different adventures. Like how Tomb of Annihilation was an amalgam of Isle of Dread, Dwellers of the Forbidden City, and Tomb of Horrors.
So mashing up the invasion idea with other classic modules might be fun. Perhaps re-flavouring Expedition to the Barrier Peaks as a massive crashed illithid Nautiloid, full of zoological specimens, which has been lost for years and contains some MacGuffin desired by the Githyanki, Githzerai, and Mind Flayers. This brings the PCs to the attention of both branches of the Gith, and allows the PCs to pick a side in the conflict.
