Imbue Arrow...

Can you use spells from wands/staves/scrolls to Imbue Arrows?

Imbue Arrow (Sp): At 2nd level, an arcane archer gains the ability to place an area spell upon an arrow. When the arrow is fired, the spell’s area is centered on where the arrow lands, even if the spell could normally be centered only on the caster. This ability allows the archer to use the bow’s range rather than the spell’s range. It takes a standard action to cast the spell and fire the arrow. The arrow must be fired in the round the spell is cast, or the spell is wasted.

That would be quite tricky...

Holding the wand you should cast the spell on the arrow, then drop the wand (scroll or whatever) draw your bow, pick the right arrow and fire it.

Mmm, that's a lot of stuff to do in a single round! :\
Maybe with quickdraw you could do it, but I would rule against it.

Hmm, the archer I'm thinking about has quickdraw and a glove of storing.

Do you need a free hand to cast a spell from a staff? If not, then all you have to do is cast the spell and drop the staff (or store in glove of storing).

No you cant use a item (scroll, wand etc.) with Imbue Arrow.

Activiating a magic item is a standard action. You only have one so you cant then use Imbue Arrow as that requires a standard action.

Imbue Arrow says "It takes a standard action to cast the spell and fire the arrow." But casting a spell is not activating a magic item.

This has been talked about before.

Even if you couldn't cast a spell from a scroll, a wand or a staff, what about a quickened spell from a scroll or a staff? What happens if the archer has a ring of spell storing? And - Gawds forbid - what about a divine spell from a cleric level of an arcane archer? :D

Kind regards

Quickened spell form scroll or staff - no, you are not casting the spell.
Ring of spell storing - no, you are not casting the spell.
Divine spell form cleric level - fine, so long as it is an area spell.

Activation: Staffs use the spell trigger activation method, so casting a spell from a staff is usually a standard action that doesn’t provoke attacks of opportunity. (If the spell being cast, however, has a longer casting time than 1 standard action, it takes that long to cast the spell from a staff.) To activate a staff, a character must hold it forth in at least one hand (or whatever passes for a hand, for nonhumanoid creatures).

From the staff description, it sure sounds like you're casting a spell.

But your not.

Your casting it FROM the staff. as in activating the staff.

Look under activating a magic item.
