So, is he just being mysterious and it's something routine, like a heal skill check, or something that might be a little more interesting that he can't divulge yet? Doesn't want to get into skill mechanics at this point? Was it instead an ability of the downed warlock, as others have suggested, and the wizard was just offering up a little life force? Something different about magic item use?

Hmmm... remember, this is Keep on the Shadowfell, the 4E intro adventure, so it's pretty certain it was done with low level skills/abilities/items.

Maybe the wizard fed the warlock one of the rats...

What's wrong with having wizards that can heal? Makes sense to me. Actually what doesn't make sense is why a wizard do all kinds of amazing things like alter the form living creatures but can't heal a wound...
Those extensions of logic regarding magic often lead to unbalanced gameplay. Also, then wizards are stepping on the cleric's shtick.

But, under 4E, all classes will get some form of healing, with the cleric being the bestist at it :) The question is, what form will it take for each class? Is it simply the Second Wind rule, or is it something like:

Fighter - Ignore Wounds
Rogue - Ha! Missed!
Wizard - healing based on arcane abilities
etc.

Also, will all these healing abilities be only usable on the acting character themselves, or on other characters? Obviously, for some, it will be the latter (cleric, warlord and probably paladin.)

...as well as bringing Adam's warlock back from the edge of death.

This obviously (!!) refers to planar travel (edge of death being a metaphor for a rather nasty outer plane).

What else could it possibly be!?

Never stopped clerics trampling on everybody elses shtick and stealing it though... :)
