Is Petrification a Transmutation effect?

I think they (Medusa's gaze, etc) should be, given the nature of the effect and the obvious similarity to Flesh to Stone, but I can't find any support for the position in the RAW.

What's more, the Flesh to Stone spell doesn't even specify that it imposes the "Petrified" condition on an unfortunate target...

I can't find info that would prove nor contradict the fact that a Medusa's gaze would be a Transmutation effect (I think it should)

I would definitely rule that it's a Transmutation effect, just like flesh to stone.
