Comabt Basics II

Weapon and Shield Proficiency (in conjunction with the above)

Base Proficiency works as in the SRD in that it elimates the non-prof penalty of -4. However the catagories or a little different

* Simple Weapon Prof or SWP (melee or ranged)
* Martial Weapon Prof or MWP (type of weapon)
* Exotic Weapon Prof or EWP (specific weapon)

After taking the Base Proficiency feat, you may choose to improve it. Each improvement is considered a progression feat. The to hit bonuses stack (the total bonus is given in brackets).

Simple Weapon Proficiency example:

* SWP (melee) 0: You make attack rolls with simple weapons normally.
* SWP (melee) I: +1 to hit with all Simple melee weapons, prereq +1 bab.
* SWP (melee) II: +1 (+2) to hit with all Simple melee weapons, prereq +2 bab.
* SWP (melee) III: +1 (+3) to hit with all Simple melee weapons, prereq +3 bab.

Shield Proficiency example:

* SP 0: You can use a shield to block one strike and take only the standard penalties.
* SP I: You may block 1 additional strike.
* SP II: You may block 1 additional strike (2 additional strikes in total)
* SP III: You may block one additional strike.

Dodge could work the same way.

Damn, I shouldn't have drunk that beer. Can't get my brain to work.

I was going to build a character to see what sort of number come out, but I can't remember where to start.

Cumulative Point Construction

This is an alternative to the CP system originally posed. It represents a more significant move away from the original class based system.

Ranks cost more as they get higher. To buy a rank costs a number of points equal to the rank you wish to buy.

Table

Rank ............ 1 . 2 . 3 .. 4 .. 5 .. 6 .. 7 ..
Point Cost ...... 1 . 2 . 3 .. 4 .. 5 .. 6 .. 7 ..
Cumulative Cost . 1 . 3 . 6 . 10 . 15 . 21 . 28 ..
(from no ranks)

BAB: Purchase With CP's.
Saves: Purchase with CP's.
Skills: Purchase additional Skill Points (SP's) with CP's.
* At each level you get a number of SP's equal to your Int score automatically
* 1 CP gets an additional number of SP's equal to your Int score.

Feats: Purchase with CP's. These have a set cost as outlined below.
* 5 CP's: Class Abilities and Feats
* 4 CP's: General Feats

I don't think it makes as much sense to go with the idea of lower CP costs for Progression feats as in the original system.

I'm not sure how to fit magic into this. Perhaps an initial feat (ie Divine Blessing to allow access to divine spells) with levels in spellcasting purchased at increasing cost.
