Keeping the dead... dead.

That doesn't work either. SRD, Flesh to Stone:

"If the statue resulting from this spell is broken or damaged, the subject (if ever returned to its original state) has similar damage or deformities."

If you powder the statue, that would count as enough damage to kill.

The idea I like the most from the previous discussion is the one where you toss the corpse into a plane with sped-up time. Seems to be non-reversable once the body has adequately aged.

1. Kill BBEG
2. Animate BBEG as skeleton
3. Order skeleton into Bag of Holding
4. Skewer said bag of holding with a rapier

The undead corpse of the BBEG is now "lost forever" and cannot be destroyed to allow for the resurrection.

Why should the body even age? if its dead? it could decay... but a couple of wish spell will have it back in no time....

Even True Resurrection can only resurrect people who have been dead no more than x amount of time. If you shunt the corpse into somewhere where time goes faster, by the time anyone thinks to resurrect him, hopefully he'll be past the limit.

The skeleton thing would work too, though. Hmmm...

People have made some interesting suggestions, but a wish would bypass most of them. Wishing to recover the undead husk (even if lost forever) is the sort of thing that would work. the hole/bag trick dumps stuff on the astral plane, it still exists, and notionally could be found given enough time and inclination and the ability to navigate/find thing on the astral plane (i.e. gith allies).

There is a far nastier way of making sure the BBEG cannot be ressurected, or recovered by his allies. Have the party stand around the body with a readied attack and cast raise dead on him. Everyone takes the redied attack. The BBEG has 1 HP/HD, and presumably dies instantly to the damage. Repeat until he loses all levels. Repeat until he loses all points of Con. Perm death.

But raise dead doesn't work if the subject isn't willing.

13 steps to ultimate security

1. Capure the BBEG. Alive.
2. Energy Drain him carefully down to level 1
3. Use undead creatures or necromancy to drain as many ability scores as you can down to 1.
4. Dunk the BBEG into the Styx, resulting in total amnesia - he won't even know his name or species after that.
5. Add a permanent insanity for good measure.
6. Kill the sucker.
7. Raise him as an intelligent insane, amnesiac, drained undead under your control.
8. Sequester the pathetic shadow remaining of the once powerful BBEG.
9. Have your cleric commune with his god, then planeshift to the god's Divine Realm, where his power is absolute.
10. Imprison the BBEG there besides the deity's other victims and tell the resident priesthood about it.
11. Use a wish to prevent mortal magic from releasing the imprisoned creature.
12. With planar ally/binding find a celestial willing do do a century or so of guard duty at the site of imprisonment.
13. Finally, directly petition the god to keep this servant of another deity (likely one opposed to it) safely bound forever by use of a miracle.

Overkill, oh yes. But fun. And likely as safe as you can get. Pity the poor party of adventurers tasked to rescue him ... :]

You don't need him alive, just reincarnate him in somthing stupid like a frog , and then you drain him.

And if the dice decided to turn in in a bear kill it .. rinse and repeat... till you got the frog.

And instead of all this:
3. Use undead creatures or necromancy to drain as many ability scores as you can down to 1.
4. Dunk the BBEG into the Styx, resulting in total amnesia - he won't even know his name or species after that.
5. Add a permanent insanity for good measure.

You can make sure the frog don't get teleported and whait till is friend comme and get it .. rinse and repeat... till you got another frog.

why should be friend come to the frog, if the frog could come to the friend?? Remember Wish spells.... Even if you were to bound it properly.. the friends just come as mroe than one.. summon half of Hell.. and go get their frog
