I was delighted to find 3E/3.5E content in there, something that I think recently came to an end as their license with WotC expired,

Not at all - we still print articles for the D&D rules system, as well as any other gaming system. It all depends on reader submissions. (In fact, there's a new D&D v3.5 monster variant coming up in issue #138.)

Granted, I'm one of the fans who prefer the comic section as opposed to the rest of the magazine. I do enjoy the 'Lost Games' section now and then though.
