This week’s list of RPG crowdfunding projects, comic books, graphic novels, friendly local gaming stores, and conventions end between June 6 and 12 (with a few outliers). This article has RPGs but also more RPG-inspired content than normal with some graphic novels, stores, and cons making the list.

Koboa- The South American 5e, PF2 and CFR Setting.jpg

Koboa: The South American 5e, PF2 and CFR Setting from The Word Refinery
  • END DATE: Thu, June 8 2023 10:59 AM EDT.
  • SYSTEM(S): Dungeons & Dragons Fifth Edition, Pathfinder Second Edition, or Tales of the Valiant (Kobold Press’ Project Black Flag)
  • PROJECT TYPE: Sourcebook
  • MOST POPULAR PLEDGE: $35 for the PDF version of the book with stats for all three systems available in English, Spanish, or Portuguese
  • WHY SPOTLIGHT THIS CAMPAIGN?Koboa is a fantasy setting inspired by the “stories and cultures of South American Indigenous, Afrolatine and Mestize peoples.” Designed by a team of “expert South American designers, writers, and artists,” (with the campaign registered out of my hometown, the same town that gave us White Wolf Publishing’s many successes), this project goes the extra mile with options in English, Spanish, and Portuguese. This setting is powered by engine options for 5e, PF2e, and the upcoming (and currently campaigning) Tales of the Valiant from Kobold Press. This project features South American creators creating a fantasy version of their cultures as a setting. Colonialism happened in Koboa, but the exit of the colonizing powers occurred within a century. In terms of content, this is 150 pages of gaming and setting options with a distinctly South American flavor. This book offers 13 forms as alternatives to races for your campaign. Forms are less about a fixed background and more about options to discover who you are and enjoy key storytelling moments. In addition, there are 2 new classes, 12 new subclasses, spells, equipment, etc, and over 25 new creatures. If you’re interested in a preview to the setting book, check out the campaign for a link to Hit Point Press’ free preview.

Epic Threats- High Level Monsters and NPCs.jpg

Epic Threats: High Level Monsters and NPCs from EN Publishing
  • END DATE: Tue, June 6 2023 10:59 AM EDT.
  • SYSTEM(S): Dungeons & Dragons Fifth Edition
  • PROJECT TYPE: Sourcebook
  • MOST POPULAR PLEDGE: £8 for the PDF version of the book
  • DISCLAIMER: EN World is a subsidiary of EN Publishing
  • WHY SPOTLIGHT THIS CAMPAIGN? Do you need 31 pages of credible threats for your 5e campaign? EN Publishing has you covered with 18 creatures and bosses ranging from CR 11 to CR 20. What’s nice is it’s not just powerful dragons. Sure there’s a fallen god and some elementals, but there’s an undead creature with its own lair (a forgotten temple), and, best of all, five high CR orcs and goblinoids. Let’s be honest, orc bosses are the heavies of low level characters, but having them be the final villain is rarer. This book helps to tie the beginning of your character’s rise to their completion. If you want your campaign’s narrative to have symmetry then this gives you those final chapter baddies to mirror those lower level adventures.

Tomb of the Dundel Chief - A D&D adventure, 5e, 1e and C&C.jpg

Tomb of the Dundel Chief - A D&D adventure, 5e, 1e and C&C from Erik Garland & Heidi Gygax
  • END DATE: Thu, June 8 2023 1:00 PM EDT.

  • PROJECT TYPE: Adventure
  • MOST POPULAR PLEDGE: $39 (free S/H in the US) for the PDF and print versions of the book plus some extras
  • WHY SPOTLIGHT THIS CAMPAIGN? A project from a Gygax, this time Heidi and hubby. After the success of their Till Death Do Us Part Kickstarter, the creative duo of Gaxland are back with a longer, more perilous adventure. This adventure is for level 3 and 4 characters in 1e, 5e, or C&C. This promises to be one of several in the setting. The printing is old-school with a detachable cover to give this the Gygax feel.

Monsters! A Mörk Borg Supplement.jpg

Monsters! | A Mörk Borg Supplement from Christian Eichhorn
  • END DATE: Sat, June 10 2023 10:30 AM EDT.
  • SYSTEM(S): Mörk Borg
  • PROJECT TYPE: Sourcebook
  • MOST POPULAR PLEDGE: €16 + S/H for the PDF and print version of the zine
  • WHY SPOTLIGHT THIS CAMPAIGN? 48 pages with over 20 monsters, each awful and illustrated as only Mörk Borg monsters can be. As with Christian Eichhorn’s other creations, this is a zine that leaves your players feeling the fantasy horrors of the gaming table. For the artwork, it is created by Waclaw Traier “using dark magic and traditional paint.” If you need more monsters for Mörk Borg, or even CY_BORG, this campaign is worth checking out.

Never Going Home- The Beginning and the End.jpg

Never Going Home: The Beginning and the End from Wet Ink Games
  • END DATE: Sat, June 10 2023 10:00 PM EDT.
  • SYSTEM(S): +One System
  • PROJECT TYPE: Sourcebooks
  • MOST POPULAR PLEDGE: $25 for the PDFs of the books
  • WHY SPOTLIGHT THIS CAMPAIGN? The Ennie Award nominated RPG is back with three new sourcebooks. The eldritch horror First World War RPG adds Campaign Dossiers with titles like Bile in the Streets, Spit in the Dirt, and From Beyond the Veil. The first book is set during the pre-war and early war period while the second Dossier focuses on the end when the Americans arrive. The third book is a sourcebook that adds new rules and shorter battle options. If you’re a fan of war RPGs and horror RPGs, these books are worth checking out.

Among them is TALES OF ASUNDA #3, which features an homage to Larry Elmore’s classic D&D cover by Sheldon Mitchell. Niobe and her world were converted to Pathfinder 1e by the Paizo team several years ago. Each issue of these series offers new exclusive Pathfinder 1e material you can bring into your campaign. If you’re a fan of fantasy adventures and looking for new PF1e content, these series may speak to you.

I met some Mörk Borg people here at LinCon, a local games convention in Linköping, Sweden. Young and talented, they seemed to be growing out of the garage and becoming a publisher. They were as amazed as me at the coverage they get. Mörk Borg is not my kind of game, but I really wish them luck, they seem to be true game enthusiasts.
