Legacy of Death Part IX: The Ultimate Tomb

To clarify, while the others do what they want to do (maybe get the gems, etc.), Sim will be preparing to the cast the Analyze Portal ritual (30 minutes) on one of the white mist portals with the help of the Manual of the Planes (+4 to arcana check). When Sim casts this, he will ask the others to move away so if it sets off a trap, they will not get caught by it. Based upon past experience with the portal in the other tomb, they should be more than 25 feet (5 squares) away but close enough to help with the portal if needed (last time thievery and athletics were also useful against the portal trap). Sim will change his origin to Fey (+1 REF and WILL, and immune to charm effects). He didn’t like being dominated for most the previous encounter with the portal trap. Also based upon the lich’s past tactics, the first room is just filled with traps that should be avoided so Sim suggests that we try to get through one of the portals quickly if possible (but that strategy didn’t work out very well against the undead recently).

The wards prevent too much portal analysis...and you are not sure that will ever be possible. However, you are able to start to unravel the wards. A little.

Of course, as soon as your ritual completes and you start doing this, the inevitable 4 armed gargoyle emerges, makes a massive flying attack...and misses you twice. Forge is not so lucky, and is clawed (32 damage) and maybe also slid (if someone tried to move him 3, how far does he go?). The looming beast ends its movement perched on one of the altars.

EVERYONE: Roll for initiative.

(22 - init). Buckthorn can you pin the gargoyle while we try to remove the wards. Let's try to avoid an extended battle and get through the portal.

29 Inish for Forge. He moves one square less on the slide. He'll wait to see what Buckthorn does (pinning or slowing the gargoyle so he can knock it prone).

Buckthorn

First Post
Buckthorn's initiative is 36.

He will name the gargoyle as his quarry and fire, using pinning Strike on the Gargoyle. Sigh. And fumbles. (Rolls 1). And again on the second arrow.

OOC: Unreal

Buckthorn will use his action point and try this again, this time using Trick Shot and at least doesn't fumble (29 to hit). If a hit, Buckthorn would do 38 damage and immobilize the gargoyle (save ends).

Buckthorn, you are clearly punished for acting out of initiative order (the gargoyle easily won it).

So, after the gargoyle goes, you miss all those shots, and use those powers!

Now, back to the gargoyle, which leaps off the alter and turns back to the arcanist. Sim is clawed once, leaving a nasty wound. (25 dmg, ongoing 15).

You can all go, except Buckthorn, who already has.
