Looking for Trouble [Orsal Judging][Concluded]

Rowan McTavish.

"This is not some lord of the land. This is either a military outpost or a wizard's keep. A lord would have serfs working the land. Therefore there's no assurance anyone would exit the fort tomorrow. We might have to wait for days."

"Let's send Lasair in. Dress her differently, maybe. Sir Revenir probably didn't get a good look at her. She could say she has a message for him from the Lord of Earling. If that doesn't work, hopefully she can still get close enough to a guard to get some info about who owns the castle. But don't go inside, Lasair. If we suspect it is the necromancer's keep, then we'll plan an attack."

"Except for me, Revenir has only seen you all at a distance. He's an aloof, poofter sort. It's quite possible he wouldn't be able to identify the rest of you for certain. Perhaps you should accompany her Richard. We can dress you as differently as possible. Don't any of you city types carry a change of cloaks and such?"

"I truly do not like to do so, as I feel as if I am not myself, but I can make myself up and wear the courtier's outfit I had to use for the coronation. Do you know anything of this Sir Revenir so that I can appear to know him from somewhere? Let me see...the Lady Lasair of Earling?"

Richard, finished grooming the horses, has stood and listened to the conversation. At this point he simply frowns at the odd woman, looks at Rowan for a moment and turns back to his mount. When conversation has died down he pulls a long, worn yet clean grey woolen cloak from his saddlebags. It would cover him completely, including armor and weapons, though not his shield, which is plain, having no device to recognize.

"I propose we make camp, keep a careful watch, make sure to shield our fires from the tower and so on. In the early morning, when the watch is at its least effective, the Lady and an escort approach the tower, hail a guard as quietly as possible, and see if she can wrest something useful before the rest of the keep is aware of us. Meanwhile the rest of the group can be ready, concealed at the edge of the trees, to respond if there is trouble. I don't like the idea of the Lady approaching alone, it would be most unlikely that an envoy would travel alone, especially not someone more . . . " Richard seems to glance at Lasair, obviously trying to be civil, "durable... a scout or ranger type for instance. Rinya's point about associating ourselves with this scum also is very true. Lets not complicate things."

OOC: btw, about what time is it? /OOC

Fascinated by the profuse discussion regarding approaching the keep, but overwhelmed by his own curiosity, Dagobert casts a quick Disguise Self, causing him to look like a common elven traveler, and approaches the gate of the keep, hailing the guards: "A-hoy hoy!"

Rowan shakes his head as Dagobert takes things into his own hands after so much discussion by others.

"He's a brave one, that elf. And our only healer. He'd better make it back alive. At least he's got a good spell. Give me back that bow, Richard, we'd better take up position.

Rowan, actually, is no good at hiding. Instead he arms himself with his guisarme, and puts all his other weapons in place. He mounts, and readies himself to charge the gate if the encounter goes wrong.

OOC: How close can we get while still being in cover? How high are the walls? How close can we get to the walls (other than the gate) while still finding concealment?

"What does he think he's doing?" Rinya cries in suprise. She will grab her bow and try to find a place where she can watch him while remaining hidden.

Dagobert, assuming a disguise, aproaches the keep. His hail is returned, as a sentry demands his identity.

The others, hanging back where they are less likely to be noticed, prepare for possible havoc. They are about 400' away from the keep, as a fairly large area has been cleared of cover around it.

As he aproaches closer to the keep, Dagobert notices nothing out of the ordinary. If the keep is anything but a military outpost of some kind, it's well disguised.

Dagobert stops and waves at them, more to show that he is unarmed than as a greeting. He calls back, "I am called Dagobert, and I hail most recently from the city of Orussus. I travel simply for the journey - for experience and knowledge of the world. Can you tell me what place this is I have come upon?"

Not completely oblivious, he keeps an eye out for any ranged weapons that may be trained on him (windows, arrow slits, and the like).

Richard hands Rowan his bow and arrows back somewhat numbly, he watched Dagobert's magical transformation with interest, but when he simply left, it rather stunned the young warrior. He nods with sympathy at Rinyas words, then simply pulls the horses back to a good tether and readies his gear. He will stay well back, as he is nowhere near quiet, he will not even attempt to stay within any range of Dagobert, relying on the signals those more stealthy.
