looking to make a powerful aoe damage dealer / summoner

so as the title states i want to summon things and make booms will be playing a 3.5 game and id like to have a class in mind

Depending on what you want to summon, and your favorite flavor of boom you might try any of the primary caster classes. Wizard, Cleric, Druid, and even Psion can all bring plenty of friends and pain.

The big secret of 3.5 is that AoE damage is nowhere near as good as the overpowered mezzes that spellcasters can hand out. But you're looking for either a wizard or a druid (or to import a Pathfinder Summoner). Druids are far better at staying alive.

Cleric with Malconvoker and/or Thaumaturgist will do exactly what you want.

Druids, and to an extent Spirit Shamans, can be great at summoning critters. "I summon 5 T-Rexes, Wildshape into another one and order my T-Rex animal companion to attack".
