Maui nods. "Maui saw him too" he admitted quietly. "Make te magic Barlo and Maui looking closer.Taniwha, haere ki te taha o Barlo!" At Maui's command the cheetah padded over to the bard's side and then moved alongside him protectively when the bard eventually advanced, alert for any sign of threat. As Maui awaits for the disappearing trick of Barlo to take effect he closes his eyes. Something begins to move beneath his skin. Bones begin to protude at strange angles and the popping of joints dislocating can be heard by those nearby. A thin layer of striped dark orange fur is seen before he becomes completely invisible.

As soon as the magic fully kicks in and the druid's spell is complete he pads forward swiftly without fear of danger towards where he spotted the figure. Once there he will try and catch the fresh sent of whoever was there but moments ago. If he catches it he immeadiately begins to follow it as swiftly as his paws will carry him.

When Barlo begins casting Vanish, Maui begins his transformation into a Dire Tiger.
SPeed becomes 40 ft
Woodland Stride and Trackless Step means natural obstacles etc. don't slow Maui and he leaves no tracks.
Move directly towards where the figure vanished and take 10 on Survival to pick up scent (or tracks): Survival +12
Move as fast as possible following scent if found.

Barlo casts his spell and Maui takes off in the direction of the unidentified figure, covering ground quickly in his tiger form. Cresting the hill, he spots the figure finish running down the back side and duck into a grotto, built around a creek that empties out into the nearby river. Even with just a moment's observation, his keen senses tell him his quarry is slightly built, quite possibly elven in heritage, and has long hair, either white or silver in color.

However, Maui realizes he has a problem. Closing in is not the problem, he is certain of it. However, closing in within the 30 seconds of invisibility granted by Barlo's spell appears to be unlikely, if not impossible. He'll need to make a quick decision or risk turning visible in the open.

[sblock=Maui]OK, you can continue to run after your target directly, and you'll probably make the interception within the confines of the grotto. Or you can reduce speed and use local cover, which would slow your speed considerably, making the largest variable what the target decides to do.[/sblock]
[sblock=Vincenzo and Barlo]Maui departs as expected and the situation he is confronted by is happening on the opposite side of the hill, which you cannot see. Do you have a plan of action, assuming some sort of delay to give Maui the head start?[/sblock]

Barlo nodded as Vincenzo and he were of similar mind. “Aye, let us follow after.”

“However, I don’t think we are being observed anymore and we can hustle up the hill, slowing down once we reach the crest. I did see the whoever it was disappear over the ridge and if he is there our friend will catch him before we get there.”

With that the bard took off running up the hill, crouching and slowing down before being visible from the other side to exercise some caution.

Maui spotted the cave where the elf was headed. An elf...? This was not the ghoul he was looking for. Using the short moments of invisibility, instead of advancing trying to intercept his quarry directly he headed towards an area where he could take cover and hide near the cave entrance to observe the elf while his companions caught up.

 

[Aura]

Maui, sensing that his invisibility is about over, finds cover with nary a few seconds to spare. As he becomes visible, he assesses the situation. He's about 80 feet to the grotto, and has a good idea of where his quarry is located in the shallow cave structure, despite the extensive cover from the undergrowth. A small lily pond sits between him and his target, although navigating around it would present little problem. His eyes trace the extent of the cave and, barring unknown circumstances, he can watch any possible escape route while closing in.

Meanwhile, Barlo, Vincenzo and Ethane run to the lip of the hill then slow down. Despite his heavier armor, Ethane does a good job of keeping up with his more lightly clad allies. By the time any of them peek over the crest, they see nothing but natural rolling hills and similar structures. A second glance, however, picks up Maui, in tiger form, hiding behind a rock outcropping and eyeing up a natural grotto, overgrown with bushes and trees, some 100 yards away. Had Maui not been fixated upon it, it would have been very easy to miss.

[sblock=Actions]Maui: So you've got a really good idea of where the target is, but not a direct line of sight. Rather, you can read the motion of the plants and such, catch shadows, etc, to intuit the position. What would you like to do? A stealth roll applies if whatever approach you'd like to use involves remaining hidden.

Others: Whatever applies. You can stay to the crest and watch the festivities, or form a plan.[/sblock]

Maui begins to creep around the pond towards the cave entrance, keeping well hidden in the undergrowth.
