Being from the much cooler mountain heights, Drayvin is feeling downright miserable in this godsawful sauna like heat and humidity. He is sweating profusely and feels like he is drooping. When we stop for the mid-day meal, Drayvin says"The horses seem to be a bit heated and tired. We need to allow them to rest, cool off, and get some water as well". He then takes the saddle off his horse and leads it to some water. Afterwards, he takes a long drink from his waterskin, then says,"When we and the horses are rested, lets push through this miserable swamp and get clear of it as soon as we can.

As the party stops near the edge of the moors, Caius internally thanks Amenthia for the wisdom to follow Seros's lead and leave his armor in the wagon while travelling. His tabard rests atop the mail and blocks any blinding reflection of the bastard sun's rays.

"You're right, lad," the older man nods. "We'll kill the poor beasts if we don't give them a rest." He moves over to help remove saddles and lead them to the water as well. Once they've had their fill, he prays over them for a recuperative rest while the group plans their course of action through the swamplands.

Returning to his assembled companions, Caius wipes his brow with the back of a grimy hand. He drinks deeply from a steel canteen with the Tritower crest across its front before returning it to hang on his pack. "This weather has been a son of a bitch for two days straight!" he snorts. He looks from one adventurer to the next and thinks aloud.

"I have three days' rations to contribute if the party leftovers run out. I'm a poor huntsman so let's not take any longer than that getting back to Venza." Caius pauses to accept some cheese and continues while chewing. "If Fhanna thinks we can make it by sundown, then let's. There remains the question, though, of how to bring the wagon through." He looks around again and shrugs, awaiting the others' input.

" My old Captain would have me flogged if he heard me wishing for such 'luxuries', though," the Rornishman chuckled, leaning against the wagon while adjusting the strap around his wrist that tied his blade to his body.

His slightly-pointed ears lifted at the mention of trouble within the swamp. While he had encountered very little on his way from Venza, the group had talked about a group of some type of fey they had fought off. To be perfectly frank, when Seros took the job, he had hoped for the chance to emulate The Saints. It seemed far more likely with each passing day that his blade was going to stay sheathed. In some ways, that was something to be grateful for, but Seros had dedicated himself to battle, to the veneration of a Saint who fought Fear. To be unable to express that was, in many regards, frustrating.

" Right. Well, if we've a path and the gumption, we should get moving," he noted, " I don't want to be stuck in that swamp after dark. We'll clear it, move on a way's past it, and camp for the night once we're not going to sink into a Saints-damned bog once we set out the blankets." ~[/section]

[section]After a short and mildly refreshing lunch break, the party begins to slog through the swampy downs. The rain from the previous day has left the road extra soggy, with water pooling along the way whenever it can. Everyone will certainly need a new pair of boots by the end of the trip.

If not for the cloud cover, the sun would easily roast the party like chestnuts on an open fire. But then again, maybe it would dry out some of the moisture on the ground and in the air. However, that might be a losing proposition either way.

Travel is quiet, no one feels like talking (except maybe Sylvain). The hum of the bog insects provides the only soundtrack the party can hear. Trudging along begrudgingly, the landscape remains the same and becomes a blur. Lulled into a haze, the heroes blindly carry along as the hours pass by. Maybe perhaps due to her position atop the wagon, Fhanna sees them first. She calls out a warning to the party, and they are under attack.

Half a dozen giant insect-bat-things begin to swarm (well, giant for a tiny insect-bat-things) and close in around the Roughy River Heroes!

[section]~ They were ugly, these creatures of the Swamp. In a Flash, Seros snatched the Armored Coat hanging on his side of the wagon, throwing his arms into the sleeves and buckling it down hastily to protect himself.

" Chwała Świętych!" he bellowed in his native tongue, finishing fastening the clasps of the coat before reaching for his sword, praying his loud voice would goad the massive mosquitos into attacking himself rather than the rest of his party (and especially their vulnerable horses). ~[/section]
