Mindflayer Themed Campaign (Recruiting Closed!)

Alrighty I've added a whole heap of Mindflayer related info in the first post, hopefully this will help in fleshing out your characters.

[sblock=Isida Kep'Tukari] Heh, I once played a mindflayer that was quite the gormand. She would feed her slaves different things to internally marinate their brains before eating them. Fun times! I may submit a character for this game, but due to Thanksgiving, it may take me some time. [/sblock]
I look forward to seeing you submission.

[sblock=Rhun] You know, LR, you could always resurrect some of your old campaigns...hint, hint!

This actually sounds kinda fun, but I don't think I have the time to put a PC together for it. However, if I do run into some spare time over the weekend, I may whip something up. [/sblock] In the future I may look at bring back my old games, but as I can only devote a small amount of this to this passion of mine, I want to try something new with a smaller group.

Regarding Thanksgiving (whenever that is) I'm open to extending submissions to work in with this.

Also Rhun you have to submit a character, you're like my lucky charm, as you've been in all of my games so far ;)

[sblock=stonegod] You're evil LR. I like it.

I'll look at throwing something together, though my first idea of a thrallheard was beaten to the punch.[/sblock]Cool Stonegod, coming from you that means alot to me :p

Also remember that this isn't a first come first serve game.

What's your take on the Cohort? Do you allow PC's to build their own, or randomly assign an NPC? What I had in mind was a spellcaster (arcane or divine) of an enemy race of the Illithids. For example, a drow priestess of Lloth or a human cultist of the Great Mother (beholder deity). I think having such a thrall would be very prestigious, and would be treated like a favorite pet.

The followers would be treated like the renewable brain supply that they are. Ha! Meals on Wheels!
I'm open to you creating your very own Thrall, however when/if your Thrall dies I'll then randomly determine what your next Thrall is.

Also having a Thrall is open to major power-gaming* if you were so inclined, I'm trusting you not to abuse the fact.
*I.E I kill my Thrall and sell all of his equipment, waits another day. I kill my Thrall and sell all of his equipment etc etc.

And yes the followers will be very handy to have around, as you'll never have to go hungry :D

- Oh, I'm sure my special pet will get killed somehow, much to my dismay. It's kinda expected. ;)

- Aside from mundane equipment and a few choice items, the thralls will be pretty poor. It just makes life simpler.

I'm really interested in this one... never played a play by post game before and browsed in here after seeing this thread title on the main page.

Anyhow - this idea fascinates me. Been trying to badger some of my players into a game like this since forever. Without much success...

Love to submit a character if my general inexperience with this format doesn't put you off!

As a rough concept, I was considering an Elocator. Figure it's has an unhealthy obesession with the physical body, instead of the more normal fixation on brains. It even studies the food container - the bit most normal flayers throw away. :) Gone as far as honeing itself into peak physical condition.

From a mechanical POV - While intending to use a melee weapon, I figure the hit and run style of the Elocator meshes well with the Mindflayers general dislike of putting themselves in physical danger!

If your happy with this idea, then I have a couple of questions:

Where exactly do you get the rules for putting together Mindflayer PCs? Have the XPH and SRD materials, but they differ a little.

Are all Mindflayers Telepaths, or do some specialise in other disciplines?

Thanks!

Firstly I've upadted the first post to include info on Lagurno, a hidden community of Illithids, which is going to act as a base of operations for this game. I'lll eventually get around to adding the Map of Lagurno, for your viewing pleasure.

Greetings Inconsequenti-AL feel free to submit a character concept for this game, regarding your experience with PbP games, no it doesn't put me off, as I often like to include fresh meat new blood into my games where possible.

1. The Monster Manual has rules on playing Mind Flayers, I look at posting this info later on, since it doesn't appear in the SRD.

2. Mindflayers are natuarally psionce creatures and have access to some interesting and deadly psi-like abilities including Telepathy. So yes they are all Telepaths, but not all Mindflayers have psionic classess i.e Psion, Psychic Warrior etc. If you choose to become a Psion you aren't required to be take the Telepath discipline, feel free to choose whatever discipline suits your concept.

Edit: Looking forward to a read about Lagurno!

For some reason, Wizards excluded some of the 'iconic' monsters from the open source policy - no Beholders or Slaad either...

The MM version - I was confusing it with the XPH version and it's starting psion levels instead.

Will dig up my copy and get to work!

Just to make sure I do it properly - the Mind Flayers Psionics ability allows my 'orrible beastie to qualify as an elocator (preq: Able to manifest 1st level powers). The class feature that grants '+1 level to exisitng manifesting class' would then start me off as a 1st level psion?

Thanks!

[sblock=Lord_Raven88]The info you posted from Lords of Madness is not OGC, so it's technically illegal to have it there. I don't care, but someone else might. Just a heads up.[/sblock]

I have added the required info from the MM to the Mind Flayer Primer section of the first post.

Okay, here is an idea floating in the back of my head:
The constructs moved implacably towards the sect. Many of the squad had fallen, their mind thrusts useless against the mindless foes. But suddenly, a warping in the end signified a great force. It slammed into one of the constructs, knocking it over. This same force picked up the construct's fallen weapon, slamming it into its companion, dropping it to its knees. Finally, one of the last pair of arcane machines was picked up by some unseen force and thrown at the other, destroying them both.

Out of the darkness, a leathery form lowered itself to the ground to supervise its work. Sharlith, the Mind's Hand, had once again done its duty.
Sharlith would be a psionic ilithid with a few power/feat replacements in order to quality for Master of the Unseen Hand Prc (CompWar) tweaked for psions. The idea is that he would be a master of telekinetic force in order to take out the foes that mental-blasts cannot handle alone. I'll post stats Sunday/Monday-ish, assuming your fine with the idea.
