OOC: Ease up, perrinmiller, we need him still - he may order keeping redbrands in jail for the duration of our expedition at least. Unless you want to leave someone of the party to guard them. You don't want to fight the whole town over mauling/killing their townmaster (corrupt as he may be)

The townmaster looks at Castagyr, 'What... you... I don't know who you think you are but I am the authority in this town, not you. How I choose to handle things, or not, is my right and my business. Now, before I escort all of you to the stockade, I ask again: What happened here?'

Eddicus responds to the town master, "We came here seeking answers to several eerily similar questions, including 'What's going on here?' and 'Who are you guys?' and 'Who is your leader?'

"However, the Redbrands in the front of the building were more interested in picking a fight with us than they were in talking about any such things, so we gave them one --a fight, that is: We gave them a fight."

"They lost,"
he adds; "and now that I've answered your question, it's time for a question or three of my own: What are the Redbrands to you--your own, municipal squad of Enforcers? Secondly, how do the citizenry feel about that? And thirdly, do you even have a 'stockade?'"

He stands and takes one step toward the town master, then stops there.

OOC: As far as I recall, Eddicus is not holding any weapon drawn at this time.

Leonan approaches around the tavern in time to hear last couple of exchanges. He stops, smiles and leave on the wall, waiting for townmasters reaction.

"Hmmm, I would offer the man a way to save face and let us be. But maybe holy duo can break him and the group gets the help out of fear."

Ooc: italics are thoughts, explaining the smile, not spoken

Brlo stood around fidgeting. Bored. What are we trying to achieve here? These humans are just thugs. None of my business...

He stayed outside, near to the outbuilding. The voices inside the tavern sounded tense. It wasn't worth getting involved yet, although that depended on what Vottr did...

"Elf-man!" he whispered loudly as Leonan approached the tavern. "Bes' be leavin'em 'lone."

Harbin looks questioningly at Eddicus for a moment. 'Troubled times,' he mutters. "the redbrands, like all who dwell here, are citizens and therefore due protection. The citizenry? Do love the rules that society places upon you at all times? I doubt it. As for the stockade, I assure you it is there and will hold.
'Now, you and yours head back to the Inn. I've a few things I need to talk to Vex about,' He indicates the portly barman. 'I'll see to the bodies and the wounded. Since your group seems intent on trying my patience I should state that, until this matter is cleared up, you are not to leave town.'
With that, he turns and calls out 'Sildar, I believe you know these folk. Show them to their rooms.'
Sildar, the grizzled veteran whom you helped rescue, enters the inn, looks about with a grim face and states quietly 'best listen. Least for now.'

"Townmaster, good to see you. I want to lodge a complaint. The boys in front of the tavern attacked me, a bard, and wouldn't let me inside. They also used foul language and hard weapons."

He smiles, still standing next to the buildings corner.
"Would you agree to hold these four in said containment before formal hearing...say, two days hence? That would give them time to prepare defense and heal the wounds. We were asked, as mercenary company, you understand, to find missing, possibly murdered, persons and investigate theft. We came here to ask questions, not kill or be killed situation we were forced in. We respect the law and, by extension, your position as head of the law in the town. You cannot really doubt that this fine paladin and finer priest would do something illegal, right?"

A moments pause, just enough to give the man time to take breath to answer before the flood continues.
"I'm sure good tavern master will confirm we didn't kill, maim, torture or otherwise inconvenience anyone who didn't attack us. And even those who did are mostly alive.
Since these people appear violent and lawless, I would ask your permission to escort them back to the town. We wouldn't like to leave such an important figure in such dangerous company."

[/section]Castagyr shook his head at the Townmaster’s demands. “Sorry, I will not be returning to the inn right now. I can assure we will not be leaving town until something is done.”

“Sorry, Sildar, but this stinks of corruption and I will not simply turn away,”
he added for the grizzled veteran that was practically asking for something to be done about the Redbrands.

Turning back to the Townmaster, he continued, “I asked you about the Redbrands earlier this morning. They have been breaking common laws and you did nothing. Then we defended ourselves and delivered the justice that you neglected. I would stay and ensure you actually put them into your stockade.”

“And there is still the matter of missing children and a murder these miscreants allegedly did.”

Looking towards Leonan 'Complaint noted. Until I have had a chance to interview all the involved parties, I agree to nothing and, as for Vex here, what he will or will not confirm is what I intend to determine.'
Turning to Castagyr 'Once again I tell you, the law here is my duty to determine and deal with and not yours. What I do, or do not do, is not your place to say. You do not even know all of the facts and yet I find blood and bodies. I ask you to depart so that I may determine what has happened and you decline. Does this not smell of worry at what I may find? I assure you, I will find out what happened and I will deal with it and I will do so without your presence.
'Let me be clear on this point. At this time you are under your own investigation of murder. Of all the skins in ths place, the one you should be concerned about is your own. You are no longer welcome at this place. Whether on your own or not, you will leave this inn and return to where you are staying. Now.'

Eddicus takes a step aside from facing the townmaster and addresses Leonan, calling to him, "Leonan, would you be so good as to ask Brlo to join us, so we may act or travel as a complete group? I believe he's somewhere around the back. If we are to return to the inn, I propose that we should do so together, rather than separately."

Then addressing Vottr, Eddicus adds, "Knowing as little as I do about paladins, I still seem to recall their being on the side of the Law, and I likewise recall their having at least nominal respect for established authority. If Castagyr agrees to return to the inn on that basis, will you be coming along too?"
