Actually, I prefer that new content is kept out of adventures (beyond adversary "monsters") as Modiphius has announced tech/era books that will contain new ships. And I think a race book is coming (don't quote me). Printing that data twice makes it seem like the "next" book is not ALL NEW. And if it is only in the adventure book, that will annoy folks who feel "obligated" to by the adventure for that one or two important Trek things that ends up in there.

Agreed. Firefly released new rules and additional character creation stuff in subsequent episode books, and it means that to a new GM they feel the need to pick up at least two of the books in addition to the main core book in order to "properly" run the game, even if they have no intention of using the given episodes. Given the price of the books, thats not a nice situation to be in.

I like that Modiphius is making a clear distinction to what each book provides, makes it a hell of a lot easier for a GM to spend their pennies wisely.

It doesn't have to be exclusive though.
They could preview that content here, in the other 2017 release. And thus allow some people to use that content in their home games, rather than early in 2018 when the command book releases with other ships. Or the Beta quadrant book releases with those races.
Something so people wanting to make the Orion Syndicate a part of their game. Or run an Enterprise era game with an NX-class vessel.

And in that case, you have information duplicated across different books. Again, perhaps not quite a Kobayashi Maru-level disaster, but mixing content certainly doesn't seem like it's one where they can win.

We already have duplication though. The book has stats for ships and species from the Core Rulebook.
If duplication is going to happen anyway, why not give people a taste of what is to come?

The intent was to make it an adventures only book. No new mechanics, no new rules, no exclusive stats that force you to buy the book. If you're a player only of the game, probably no need for you to buy the book. If you're a GM who has no need of adventures, probably no need for you to buy the book. Had we inserted some stats or mechanics in there, and made them only available in TATV, we'd have a different subset of gamers complaining that we spread the game out across as many books as possible. Can't please everyone.

So we went with a book that was just focused on adventures. And sneaking in a few nuances within the stat blocks presented. NX-class will be in the Command sourcebook.

...and you did a great job. I ran "Border Dispute" at a local convention a few days ago and it went over very well - the players enjoyed it, were challenged by it, and the material in the book provided me with a perfect balance of guidance and options. Well done.
