Nazareth Awakened - Chapter 02: Wives of Solomon

GlassEye

Adventurer
Harper, Thyrsus mage

[section]
Harper hums harmony to the song and sighs when it is over. He peers out the windows into the darkness and then turns his attention to those inside the vehicle. He gives a noncommital grunt of acknowledgement when Law mentions the plot they are looking for. He glances at Agnasci when the spells are cast. Half afraid Agnasci was done with magic, or at least Penrose and his apprentices, Harper is glad when he showed up.

Harper chuckles at Chance though there is a nervous sound to it and he obsessively turns an old Barlow pocketknife over and over between his fingers. It had belonged to his grandfather and Harper had spent a bit of time lately sharpening it; the thin, worn blade would be a poor weapon but he was glad to have it in his hand anyway.

He reached down to the floorboard and picked up the plastic rain poncho that he had tossed there at the beginning of their trip. He had found the poncho at one of the those 'everything for a buck' stores and bought it because who knew how long this vampire had been buried. They might want something to cover it.

"Yeah, right. I thought the idea was to unbox it?"

Harper grins and slips from the Tahoe. He pokes his head back inside the vehicle. "C'mon. We toss the shovels over and then I'll boost you over the fence."

Law says nothing about Chance's wardrobe choice for the evenings events. If anything he finds it ridiculous, yet also hilarious.

As he parks the Tahoe he pulls in tight along side the fence. Clambers on top of the rig and hops over the fence using the height of the vehicle to his advantage. Welcoming the others to do the same to make things a little easier.

Harper shrugs and chuckles.

"Well, that certainly makes it easier."

Before he hops the fence he stills his mind and pictures knowledge of nearby people filling a mental map of the area. He summons the magic and lets it show him if there are any people lurking around. When it is clear he'll follow after Law.

[sblock=OOC]Casting 'Sense Life' with the restriction of humans only. As you said, there's not any reason to cast it without the Space element so I'll always cast it that way and only say something if I choose not to use Space.[/sblock]

Law has to pull the Tahoe up onto the curb near the gate in order to get it right alongside the fence. Once there it's no trouble at all for him and Harper to climb up the hood and onto the roof.

Harper pauses in order to cast a spell. Now, with the addition of the space arcanum that has been bubbling to life within him recently, he can quite clearly pinpoint the locations of people in nearby houses. Two in what's likely a bedroom in this house, four spread across three rooms in this house, and so on - none of them seem to be near the windows of their homes and there isn't anyone on this side of the street that Harper can detect except for the mages themselves.

With the assistance of the Tahoe it shouldn't be difficult to clear the spiked top of the fence and the two mages hop over.[sblock=Hopping over]Law's Roll: Dexterity 4 + Athletics 2 = Success with 1 success
Harper's Roll: Dexterity 3 + Athletics 1 = Failure with 0 successes
Law takes no damage. Harper takes 2 points of bashing damage[/sblock]Law hops up and over the spikes of the wrought iron fence, landing on his feet on the other side. Harper isn't as lucky, catching his foot on a spike - it doesn't cut him, but he's tripped up and lands hard on his butt.

Harper has taken 2 points of bashing damage. Bashing damage heals at a rate of 1 point every 15 minutes, so he'll have shaken off most of the pain in half an hour or so. He might be sore for longer.

Law helps Harper to his feet and the two look back through the fence at Agnasci and Chance. Climbing back from this side will be more difficult.

From the outside of the gate, Agnasci says to Law and Harper, "You two get started. I'll move the car so it doesn't look suspicious, and maybe Chance can try picking the lock so we have a way out. We'll meet you soon."

Agnasci will move the truck to the least conspicuous location he can find, and return to the gate, where hopefully Chance will be able to crack the lock. While she's working, Agnasci casts influence light on the biggest sources of light shining on the gate, twisting the beams to illuminate the ground underneath the lights, instead.

Assuming Law willingly hands over the keys, Agnasci parks the vehicle on the street fifty or so yards from the gate. Upon his return he channels magic, not from his native Pandemonium, but from the Aether of the obrimos.

Agnasci is casting a spell not driven by his ruling arcana and spends a point of Mana. He has 3 Mana remaining.

Further - His dice pool for casting this spell will be 2 (Gnosis 1 + Forces 1). Should he fail he'll have to spend another point of Mana to cast it again. Would you like to use any Willpower or Destiny (Willpower and Destiny points are restored at the end of a chapter and are therefore at full)?

Agnasci casts the spell without spending willpower or destiny dice. If it doesn't work, hopefully Chance works quickly enough to minimize the chance of detection

Agnasci does not successfully cast his spell[/sblock]Agnasci tries to bend the light of the street lamp to his will but his imago crumbles and he loses the spell.

Agnasci has 3 Mana remaining.

Chance, who looked just about ready to try to climb over herself, glanced back at Agnasci and shrugged, then went over to the gate and checked the lock out. After a second she produced her little packet with her tools in it, wiggled a couple out, and started working it over...

(Larcenousness ensues!)

Chance steps under the light of the street lamp and sets to work on the gate's lock: It's not so much about picking it as it is picking it quickly and minimizing time spent in the open.[sblock=Chance being larcenous]Roll: Dexterity 3 + Larceny 3 = Success with 3 successes
Chance scores all the successes needed on the first roll and quickly picks the lock[/sblock]After just under a minute the lock pops open and Chance swings the gate out enough for her and Agnasci to step into the cemetery. She closes the gate behind her, leaving the lock open.

Agnasci can see fine in the dark, but the others have more trouble. It's going to be impossible for the group to navigate the cemetery - much less find the correct plot and dig up a grave - in total darkness.

Who's bringing a flashlight from the Tahoe?
