Neiyar: The Demon Plague Licensing Details

First Post
Several months ago, we announced plans to revise the Neiyar: Land of Heaven and the Abyss campaign setting. Well, we've revealed the details of the new Neiyar setting, as well as announced a unique licensing plan for those interested in creating products for the Neiyar universe. What we have learned from feedback is that while our fans love the setting, they are fragmented on what systems they want to play. Instead of attempting to create different versions of the setting for a half dozen game systems, we have decided to open the world up to other creators and publishers.

Neiyar: The Demon Plague will move the timeline thirteen years to the year 666. The Fourth Demon Plague is about to be unleashed upon the land, and the races of Neiyar are far from ready. A Holy War between the temple of Sophia Kalla and the other faiths has torn the Neiyar people asunder. The Fashra region has declared itself an independent country from the rest of the Neiyar, and has begun a systematic "cleansing" to remove heretics and apostates from the region. Granite and Mezzertratrine have declared themselves independent City-States free of Neiyar rule. Strange creatures have begun to emerge from the Pyramid, and the native Amphikin and Mahaultae of the region find themselves forced to work together against an alien foe.

To the South, the half-dragon Expericus has done the unthinkable … he has begun to resettle the ancient city of Dazu. But as Krakadons flock to reclaim their lost capital, some wonder what price the half-blood agreed to pay the Great Dragon bound there. And then there are disturbing reports of strange and unusually large tracks, of cracked eggshells over five feet in length, of unknown noises coming from the densest parts of the jungle. Some of the ancient Krakodons begin to wonder if the dragons have returned to the island.

Neiyar: The Demon Plague will be released as a system neutral campaign setting, allowing storytellers to use their system of choice to explore the world. We will license the campaign setting to others who wish to create third-party supplements for various game mechanics to compliment the setting. We are developing three stress-free licenses that will give creators the freedom and flexibility they need to publish without unnecessary and burdensome restrictions.

Universal License Highlights:
*Each license includes at least one print copy of the Neiyar: The Demon Plague Core Setting Sourcebook, as well as early digital galley copies of each supplemental setting sourcebook at least one month before it is released for sale to the public.

*Licenses are renewed annually. However, renewal of license is not required to continue selling products already published in a licensed year. For example, if a publisher publishes an adventure module in November and their license expires in December, they can continue to sell that module into the next year even if the license is not renewed. The license must be renewed, however, to publish new material.

*No royalty payments are required on the sale of license supplements.

*Licensed supplements are promoted through Bards and Sages alongside our core setting supplements.

*A copy of the final product must be send to Bards and Sages within 30 days of release for our records.

In addition, each license has its own unique features:

Independent Creator License: For self-publishing creators who intend to only produce and sell a limited number of products in either digital format or POD format. This license is perfect for the hobby publisher who only creates a few products a year and would like access to a ready-made world with a built in player base.

*Publish up to six digital and one print supplement within a licensed year.

*Includes one print copy of the Core Setting Sourcebook.

*Each supplement must be submitted for final review before being published. Final review included free proofreading to catch typos, grammar errors, and formatting problems.

*Accessible Support: Access to a dedicated forum in which to ask design questions, get advanced notice regarding upcoming metaplot points for the setting, or seek advice on production and marketing.

Digital Publisher License: For those established RPG publishers that only produce digital content. For those professional publishers who deal exclusively in digital products and want the freedom to offer an unlimited number of products without restraint.

*Publish an unlimited number of digital products during the licensed year.

*Includes three print copies of the Core Setting Sourcebook to distribute to staff.

*Voluntarily submit products for pre-publication review. Review includes free proofreading to catch typos, grammar errors, and formatting problems.

*Accessible Support: Access to a dedicated forum in which to ask design questions, get advanced notice regarding upcoming metaplot points for the setting, or seek advice on production and marketing.

Print Publisher License: For those established publishers that produce print products instead of or in addition to digital content. This license is for those publishers that need the most flexibility and freedom to create an distribute products through a variety of media and sales channels.

*Publish an unlimited number of digital and print products during the licensed year. Includes five print copies of the Core Setting Sourcebook for distribution to staff.

*Voluntarily submit products for review. Review includes free proofreading to catch typos, grammar errors, and formatting problems.

*Accessible Support: Access to a dedicated forum in which to ask design questions, get advanced notice regarding upcoming metaplot points for the setting, or seek advice on production and marketing.

Important License restrictions:

Supplements must adhere to the license agreements of their associated game mechanic systems. In all such licenses, the ownership of the Neiyar: The Demon Plague Intellectual Property must be clearly noted as Bards and Sages Publishing.

For supplements employing game mechanics that require an official license, Licensee must produce evidence of a legitimate license before publishing.

Supplements cannot employ “meta-plotting” elements that fundamentally change the setting or contradict information presented in the Core Setting Sourcebook.

Supplements designed for mature audiences must be clearly noted as such in all marketing material, and cannot include material that would be considered pornographic or construed to encourage, promote or endorse illegal activities. Licensees can seek pre-approval on a case-by-case basis.

To request more information on licensing, use the online form and select which license you are interested in.
