Relaxed Intensity
For sheer breadth of work I'd go with Jonathan Tweet. Ars Magica, Over the Edge, and Everway had a dramatic impact on the expansion RPG design. His designs helped pave the way for the Indie RPG movement. He was also one of the early pioneers on bringing desktop publishing to RPGs and his early work with Wizards helped to keep them afloat until Magic became a thing, paving the way for the purchase of TSR.

I'd say that Lisa Stevens definitely deserves a mention for her work on the business side of the industry.

Explorer
I have to nominate Greg Stafford. From him and his works have spawned:

Glorantha - One of the most creative, mythological RPG worlds.

Runequest - One of the most successful fantasy RPG's after D&D.

Pendragon - An innovative RPG, where you not only roleplay a character, but also can roleplay his bloodline through a long campaign. The passion mechanic is the reason a lot of people have used the system for other campaigns unrelated to Arthurian fantasy.

Prince Valiant - While not very successful (perhaps due to the obscure license), it is also an innovative, basic, introductory RPG. It even allows for players to take over the reigns as GM for short stretches of the campaign.

Ghostbusters - While I am not overly familiar with it, all references to it refer to it as one of the most influential and innovative RPG's at the time. It may not have been hugely successful, but RPG's influenced by it have been.

Call of Cthulu - Easily the horror RPG with the most success.

Chaosium - One of the early movers and shakers of the RPG world. One of the few early RPG companies still in business (albeit in a much altered form).

Lisa Stevens, yes.

So many folks.

Surely the British Steve Jackson deserves a nod. Especially for the founding of Games Workshop and his choose your own path books.

He and Ian Livingstone are responsible for my very first intro to RPGs, before I even knew what RPGs were. Good call.

First Post
I'd liken it more to the Hollywood Walk of Fame. Everyone ends up there - eventually. Just gotta wait your turn!

On that basis I'll throw in a nomination for the English Steve Jackson, and also Ian Livingstone. For the creation of the Fighting Fantasy books.

Also seconding Ed Greenwood, Monte Cook, Maj. David Wesley and Ryan Dancey.

His work was cut short by tragedy, but until then Nigel Findley wrote some great material for the Ravenloft setting (as well as countless other lines and rpgs) and think he deserves some consideration for the honor.
