1.) It seems Rich Burlew doesn't subscribe to the "a solid hit at 1st level becomes a glancing blow at 10th level" philosophy of hit points. Instead, high-level characters can apparently simply shrug off multiple full-torso impalements.

2.) Offhand, the only way I can think of for Tarquin to achieve that one-hit double-stab is via Cleave, so despite the vicious visuals, it's likely that the actual damage dealt to Roy wasn't very great. The sword probably just slipped through the hole the triceratops's horn had left.

Cleave would require Elan to be dropped to 0 hit points before the attack passes to Roy.

Perhaps mechanics-wise the effect is an AoO? Elan moves into the threatened square to provide cover for Roy, but Tarquin attacks anyway.

Aren't there some splattish feats for penetrating attacks?

I thought there were some for missile attacks, at least.

Of course, by the rules, hiding behind another character would provide a cover bonus. And possibly compensated, since the characters would be squeezing into a single square, hence would lose their DEX bonus.

Thx!
