There is something else that comes into play in any hostage situation, and kidnapping is a hostage situation.

This has been noted in everything from abusive and severly codependent relationships to people being taken hostage on bank roberies to POWs.

It's name is Stockhold Syndrome.

Also some news reports are saying that they believe the child to have been brainwashed. I'm not going to bother to provide links to those 20 million sites though.

I have been baffled about the amount of kidnapped people taken out in public who never shout for help. Teach your kids if a stranger ever takes them to scream for help when in public and around people. The person will be more concerned with their personal safety than trying to hurt the victim.

Have they tried contacting America's Most Wanted? They've helped get a lot of kids back. I doubt it's a coincidence Elizabeth Smart turned up just a couple of weeks after the new suspect sketch was on their show.

In fact, yes, Shawn was featured on AMW, but I think they lack a suspect and have no eye witnesses like they did in Elizabeth's case. Makes it so hard.

I think everyone on the boards is glad to offer their support. Hopefully, Shawn will return to his family soon.

So, let us all keep a watchful eye out for those in need. It was the attentiveness of strangers that helped bring Elizabeth Smart back to here family. Let us hope similar attentiveness will help reunite other lost children with their families.

That's fantastic! Sitting here with my baby son this story really touched me. I had no idea the thread was started a long time ago and that the last post would reveal such happy news. Some friends of my wife's family recently had their son abducted by a pedophile. Luckily that story ended well due to the actions of eye-witnesses. I guess it is a strong endorsement for not giving up hope.
