Solace remembered drying Bronk's leather in the sun. Surrounding the cottage and out to the fence, she could squeeze more than thirty hides, each nailed with iron spikes to the ground and stretched further than you'd think they could. When she did it right, she'd be able to bounce beads off one, onto another, and onto a third. With the practice she had, she understood how best to fit things into a tight space.

Or so she had thought. One Quagoth's arm lunging at her through the ruined bars, but striking its companion, another in front of her looming and still feasting on the chunk of her midriff it had clawed away. Now there was a crossbow from across the gorge and a giant centipede. She wasn't entirely sure who everyone was, but all seemed to agree that the beast before her had to be stopped first.

And so she struck at it. Her hands were still pinned, but it was enough for her deftly to use the shard she'd been given. Forward she lunged, into hope and darkness.

OOC: To hit: [roll0]. If a hit, damage = [roll1] plus [roll2].
If the creature falls, she'll climb over it, past the Centipede, and as far as she can go towards the guardhouse.

EDIT: advantage rolled here and also a 6. Ugh.

The quaggoth barring Solace's way dodged out of the way, turning to the side the flint shard she held. Solace's lunging attack missed.

Round 4, continued

Brinn re-entered the cell and stood between the derro and Stool. The myconid sprouting didn't respond immediately to Brinn's telepathic question, but two waves of hesitation and uncertainty passed to Brinn over the link. Brinn kept a careful eye on Buppido, who seemed not at all inclined to move at the moment.

The quaggoth who'd been attacking Solace and Raza (Quaggoth 1) turned to its right and ripped into the quaggoth (Quaggoth 3) just inside the now-open bars of the cell, hitting it, and dealing 14 points of damage. Quaggoth 3 howled in pain and returned the favor, ripping through Quaggoth 1's matted fur, and dealing a critical blow for 12 points of damage. Quaggoth 1 flew into a blood rage, shrieking and howling. The other six quaggoths in the cell fell to howling, yammering, and banging against the stone floor; the sound crescendoed and echoed throughout the chasm.


OOC: Raza's turn, [MENTION=40413]GlassEye[/MENTION]. Don't forget that Quaggoth 1 is lit up by faerie fire, so attack rolls against it go with advantage (for Raza and Brinn this would negate their disadvantage for not having darkvision).

The quaggoth seemed unaffected by the poison that Raza’s bite injected into it. She recoiled and antenae twitched and sensed the motions in the air of the quaggoth’s movements. She waited for the right time then struck. It was, however, the Mother Night’s will that she be further tested and Raza’s bite closed on air.

Kamael sees the perilous position that Solace is in, but can't think of any way to get her out of there! Desperately, he hurls another bubble of acid at the quaggoth and hopes that it is too distracted to evade again.

Then he moves into the guard tower and climbs the ladder, hoping to find something of use in the room above (and not more drow guards!)

OOC:
action: Acid Splash - quaggoth Dex save DC 13 or [roll0] damage.
move: 15' to base of ladder, another 15' up the ladder, even at half speed should be enough to get to the next floor.

End of Round 4

In giant centipede form, Raza's wits were sharper than normal. Even so, when she lunged forward to snap and bite at Quaggoth 1, she missed. Kamael conjured a bubble of acid and hurled it at Quaggoth 1, but missed. Kamael next darted inside the stalactite. No one was in there, but he spied the rope ladder and quickly made his ascent to the second story. There, he found a treasure trove of gear in what looked to be the outpost's armory.

Stool hesitated, then used the link with Brinn to communicate.[sblock=Telepathic Link]"Brinn. You first. I will follow. It is madness and chaos out there, and the beasts in the next cell over are crazed with blood lust. Can you not hear them? What if Ilvara comes? You first, Brinn."[/sblock]
Buppido wasted no time. He was out the cell gate lickety split, running full bore down the rope bridge, through the stalactite, and on to the next adjoining rope bridge. He pulled up short, however, when he spied Kago looming over the slain Drow Guard. He croaked in poor Common, "The slimy fish-man said there's a lift somewhere. Let's us find it?" The derro's voice carried a hint of comraderie, hope, perhaps, that the orc would make a willing comrade. Jimjar's eyes followed after Buppido, but the deep gnome waited a few beats to move. Once the derro was out of sight, Jimjar cautiously loped out of the cell and into the stalactite. He did not reappear. His Highness Derendil remained seated at the rear of the cell. Quick eyes watched Stool and Brinn, but the quaggoth made no move to stand.

Shuushar finished chanting. The kuo-toa opened his eyes, nodded to himself, and said, "Very good." Slowly, he raised his portly body and stood, then approached Brinn. "It is time. Shall we leave?" Shuushar gestured to the open gate.

Kago ignores the derro as he rummages the corpse for anything useful. With drow blood dripping from his hands, he paints his fingers across his own face to create a war mask, then heaves the lifeless body off the bridge into the waterfall. He stares at the derro on the bridge. "Kago not run from war!" he says, then shoves past Buppido toward the stalactite.

OOC: Spend an action searching the corpse (keys, hopefully!) and tossing it off the bridge. Then move into the stalactite.

Round 5

Kago searched in vain for keys. Finding none, he did, however, take note the guard wore a chain shirt for armor, and carried both a light crossbow and a short sword. A small box of six light crossbow bolts was secreted inside a breeches pocket. Kago retrieved what he would of these items, then dumped the Drow Guard over the lip of the rope bridge. Perhaps two or three seconds later, he heard the body land with a crunch on solid ground. He lumbered back into the stalactite, where he met Jimjar the deep gnome hunkered to one side. Both doors to the stalactite lay open. Jimjar pointed a finger to the rope ladder, indicating that someone was upstairs.

Yet another crossbow quarrel zinged from across the chasm, this time hitting Quaggoth 1, and dealing 5 points of damage. The behemoth was definitely looking worse for the wear.
