As far as removing the power of an attack by “owning it” before the attack can be launched, I call it the “8 Mile Defense” because in that film, the rapper B. Rabbit disarms his rap battle opponent by self-deprecation, admitting to all the flaws and difficulties he struggles with before they could be used against him. By ‘making fun of‘ himself, his opponent had nothing to say, and many in the audience could relate to and empathize with problems similar to their own.

I thought this was a very good discussion about how much effort it takes to carve out places in the wilds of the Internet where unpleasant people are not welcome. I have never posted before, and I am looking forward to doing so now. Well done to both hosts of the podcast.
