I like the idea of forming an RPG troupe in which everyone learns a system together and players switch off in the GM role. Everyone has a character or a few, but whoever is GMing has theirs sit out. Then, after the one-shot or short arc, the previous GM becomes a player and someone else runs an adventure or arc. No one is stuck as ‘forever GM’ and getting burned out.

Maybe all the characters are crew on a ship, and much like in Star Trek, those who deal with a scenario are on the away team (or for an oceangoing vessel, the aweigh team), if it’s an airship, it’s easy enough to travel to adventure locations and change out crew members as needed.

(The DMG does feature a lich, but that’s Acererak, of the rather horrible tomb.)
