Ranger weapon style, is always used as the secondary ranger weapon style?

The monte ranger was.... well. Better than his bard ;)

Just a little remark about the usefulness of TWF style: All you need to make it better than a twohanded weapon is: Extra damage on all weapons. Such as (surprise surprise) Favored Enemy.

So two weapons may indeed be the best option.
Hey I never said TWF was not something to consider, my issue is more about the usefulness of taking it as your ranger combat style. I find it quite limiting especially for Multi-class character.

Well, naturally it's not going to be useful if you don't want to use TWF. My ranger uses a greatsword so I too went with the archery style.

I think from reviews of Wildscape that that book includes some other styles. Personally I think it would have been cool if WotC had included more options. Speed: Improved Init, Run, Combat Reflexes...? Animals: Animal Affinity, Skill Focus (Ride, Handle Animal)...?

I don't agree with your two example why for example should the fighter4/ranger2 wait till it gets to being F4/R6 before getting ITWF

But what if he started with two levels of ranger (lots of nice skills) then went four levels of fighter, then went back to ranger?

Basically the TWF can be built into any character build if you want to, but it isn't so great that everyone wants it or it becomes a must-have. Which is entirely appropriate.

Even the ftr4/rgr2 might not want to take twf as his 6th level feat because he's got bigger fish to fry. Maybe he wants to get whirlwind attack or spring attack with his 6th level feat, and then getting twf later is nice.

A fighter who wanted to specialise in twf probably wouldn't want to start taking levels of ranger as a "cheap" way of getting twf... which is as it should be.

I don't think the "problem" you see really exists outside of specific cases.

Ok, what about Monkey Grip? :)

Now you wield your greataxe one-handed and you can use a light weapon to make some off-hand attack. Well, obviously it might not be your best option (everyone knows that two-handed weapons are far more dangerous than two weapons), but if you face many weak enemies, and you also have great cleave, you may have a really good time... :D

Anyway IMO the only ranger worth playing was Monte Cook's...

Monkey grip allows you to use larger weapons...not use two handed weapons in one hand.

And at a -2...
