This is the first week since the holidays that I’m unable to cover a number of projects (what is shared here is only a sampling) and that trend seems likely to continue. For those that have reached out for help with your projects, the volume of inquiries is higher than it’s ever been. I hope to respond to all of them this week with whatever assistance I can offer. Until then, I wish all of the RPG campaigns every bit of luck.

Lore of the Traditions for the Mage 20th Anniversary TTRPG from Onyx Path Publishing
  • END DATE: Thu, February 17 2022 2:00 PM EST.
  • SYSTEM(S): Storyteller System (Mage: The Ascension 20th Anniversary Edition)
  • PROJECT TYPE: Sourcebook
  • MOST POPULAR PLEDGE: $80 + S/H for the PDF, POD, and deluxe hardcover versions of the book
  • WHY SPOTLIGHT THIS CAMPAIGN? Mage: The Ascension is founded on unique lore and its world of magic cannot stand without it. This campaign offers up a sourcebook that deeply refines an aspect of that lore, framing it for the 20th Anniversary Edition of the game. Giving the politics and history of each current members of the Council of Nine, this book promises meditations on how mages see the world and the technology of today as compared to how it was viewed in prior ages. In addition to the book, this campaign offers an interesting option available to higher level backers, having one of RPG’s busiest freelancer, Travis Legge, help you create new community content via the Storyteller's Vault. If you want to work with a known creator on an original World of Darkness or Chronicles of Darkness project, there is an option to do just that. If you’re a fan of Mage: The Ascension, or interested in some help on creating a Storyteller’s Vault project, this campaign offers some great opportunities.

Across a Thousand Dead Worlds.png

Across a Thousand Dead Worlds from Blackoath Entertainment
  • END DATE: Mon, January 31 2022 6:00 AM EST.
  • SYSTEM(S): An original system
  • PROJECT TYPE: Core rulebook
  • MOST POPULAR PLEDGE: €70 + S/H to the US for the PDF and physical versions of the book, KSA File Folder, battlemaps, and more
  • WHY SPOTLIGHT THIS CAMPAIGN? The overview of this RPG might be summarized as a space dungeon crawler in which you explore abandoned research facilities and outposts on your quest for alien technology. Between missions, you’re stuck on a space station that’s fee-ing you into risking another mission because nothing is free and you have bills to pay. At over 400 pages, this is space horror that can be played solo or up to five players, all GM optional. That’s a lot of structure and design, yet that’s not all as the game offers free form character creation. If you need a sci-fi horror option at your gaming table, check out the campaign page for a free preview to see if this RPG speaks to you.

Vulcania - Beyond the Storm TTRPG.jpg

Vulcania - Beyond the Storm TTRPG from GearGames
  • END DATE: Thu, February 3 2022 5:00 PM EST.
  • SYSTEM(S): An original system
  • PROJECT TYPE: Sourcebook
  • MOST POPULAR PLEDGE: €29 for both PDFs
  • TRY BEFORE YOU BUY: Test out the Vulcania system with Vulcania Quickstorm, which is PWYW at DriveThruRPG
  • WHY SPOTLIGHT THIS CAMPAIGN? These sourcebooks expand on the Vulcania RPG with a look at the uncharted continent of Letvia, as well as new arts, equipment, and airships. Vulcania is a fantasy steampunk RPG that uses a unique d12 system. The core rulebook measures at 436 pages, while the new books – In Beyond the Storm and The Xhuul Saga – ring in at 250 pages and 150 pages respectively. If you’re a fan of Vulcania, this campaign is for you. If you have not played before, there’s a preview, and an option to get the core rulebook along with the new books.

CyberMetal 2012.jpg
CyberMetal 2012 from World Champ Game Co
  • END DATE: 2/7/2022, 10:00:00 PM
  • SYSTEM(S): An original system
  • PROJECT TYPE: Core rulebook
  • MOST POPULAR PLEDGE: $40 + S/H for PDF and print versions of the book
  • NOTE: This project is crowdfunding via GameFound
  • WHY SPOTLIGHT THIS CAMPAIGN? An alternate timeline, metalheads, demons, drug running, debt canceling, and more ideas come together in this low-fi cyberpunk RPG. When a metal band ritually sacrificed Ronald Reagan at a concert, opening the gates of Hell, and… Yeah, I just started that sentence and have no idea how to end it. Let me be level, I’m excited to see a new project crowdfunding on GameFound, and I’m excited to see story boundaries pushed like what CyberMetal 2012 offers. There’s a MÖRK BORG vibe to it, but the game uses a d100 system. This RPG compares itself to Mothership and Blades in the Dark, and it launches with a big premise: Demons in the world because metal. If you’re looking for demons and metal and large concepts to build a campaign around, this RPG awaits your review.
stonewall.jpg

Stonewall 1969 - A war story RPG from Asterisco Edizioni
  • END DATE: Thu, February 17 2022 7:00 AM EST.
  • SYSTEM(S): An original system
  • PROJECT TYPE: Core rulebook
  • MOST POPULAR PLEDGE: €55 + €45 S/H to the US for PDF and print versions of the game
  • WHY SPOTLIGHT THIS CAMPAIGN? This project shines a spotlight on a powerful historical moments. Played as a single session overview of the Stonewall Riots of 1969, you’ll game as members of the community living out your lives in the months leading up to the Stonewall protest. The focus of the game is understanding your character and why they rebelled. If learning more about this important moment for LGBITQ+ rights speaks to you, there’s a free preview of the game on the Kickstarter page to help you decide if this is a game you want to play.

This opens up 56 classes with 10 levels per class and 30 1980s-themed spells with names like “Footloose,” “Private Eyes,” and “Sweet Dreams.” At over 200 pages, this sourcebook offers a lot of content for the price point ($6 for the PDF or $19 + S/H and for the PDF and print versions). MÖRK BORG Compatible Core Reference Cards.png

MÖRK BORG

The next items in this week’s review are MÖRK BORG offerings, each finding its own following. I wanted to share this as MB continues to be a major force in RPG.

Over 40 pages of foraging rules, crafting rules including crafting failures, artifact options, animal husbandry, four new classes, and more. Most MÖRK BORG games are not long term affairs, so crafting and breeding animals is a hope for players looking to mark their time in the world. If you’re looking for something more long term and MÖRK BORG, this may be for you.

If you’re a fan of the sickness of MÖRK BORG, then this project is worth a look.

Across A Thousand Dead Worlds looks interesting (I'm leaning toward backing) but people shouldn't sleep on Starforged. The most recent version of the backer PDF is fantastic, its solo and GM-less mechanics are proven (see Ironsworn), and it actually has a ton of space horror content.

When will the Mork Borg only crowdfund articles start? That way I can ignore them lol...

I appreciate MB - it does what it does really well, at least aesthetically. But the theme leaves me cold...

Can't wait for my copy of Starforged in dead tree

My feelings when the week's report is almost all 5th Ed materials. I think that would be too much work for him, though.

I wonder if Onyx Path will continue publishing titles for the 20 Annyversart Edition. I would love a sourcebook about the crafts/Disparates from "Mage: the Ascension".

I think OP will continue until paradox gets a 5th edition game on the table. They are still producing a Werewolf book (the Apocalyptic Record) which is something like Beckett's Jyhad Diary only for Werewolf, but that's it; maybe this means Werewolf 5e is not far off. Meanwhile Brucato has been a busy beaver: Rich Bastard's Guide, Technocracy Reloaded, Victorian Mage, and now this.

The DA is a bit of a metaplot development... I wonder if that's all Brucato's doing, or if it is setting the stage for Mage 5th edition.

Lore of the Traditions - I really, really want to want this. But I'm still waiting for my Technocratic hardcover (and I know all the reasons behind the delays and I know they're not that long in the grand scheme of things, but still... we're not even playing Mage anymore...). This would be just another pretty to be unused on my shelf at this point.

Across a Thousand Dead Worlds - Already backed. It's my big spend for the month.

I would back a Disparates and/or Hedge supplement, even given what I said above.
