The Lord of the Rings RPG | Shire Adventures | Loremaster's Screen & Rivendell Compendium by Free League Publishing
  • SYSTEM: Dungeons & Dragons 5th Edition
  • PRODUCT TYPE: hardcover Middle-earth supplement with map/hardcover adventure/GM screen and softcover supplement
  • RETAIL PRICE: $57/$39.99/$29.99
  • OTHER RPG NEWS: The Lord of the Rings RPG on geeknative.com
  • DESCRIPTION: I have to admit that having Middle-earth back in current print for current D&D is pretty cool although I prefer The One Ring. The Lord of the Rings Roleplaying contains six original heroic cultures from the land of Eriador, six new classes, a decent collection of terrifying adversaries, and comprehensive rules for journeys, councils, wondrous artefacts, and the subtle magic of Middle-earth. It requires the combat and skill rules found in D&D 5E but replaces most of everything else: races, classes, monsters, spells (spells are more like feats), and magic items are all new and specific to Middle-earth. Also has a starting adventure site and a fold out map of Eriador. Shire Adventures is an adventure detailing what Hobbits get up to when they cannot avoid adventure. The Shire is explored with a thorough description of its four farthings and five exciting ready-to-play adventures, fully playable. Pre-gens include Hobbits such as Primula and Rory Brandybuck, and Paladin Took. You might even find out what level Bilbo Baggins is and behold stats for Sting (the sword not the singer). The Loremaster’s Screen is in landscape format. The Rivendell Compendium details The Last Homely House, including a map of the valley and a plan of the house itself. Some of Rivendell’s inhabitants are included, including Elrond Half-elven, who can be used as a new patron. Meeting Arwen can also ease the heart and erase Shadow. Finally, there is a new culture for High Elf Player-heroes.

FIST interests me because of the engine and content. I need to check that out. The Lord of the Rings Roleplaying Game is a winner, but what else would it be with Tolkien and Free League. :)

Legend
Monsterary of Zimralla is essentially T&T at its core... the new Monsters! Monsters! is in compatible with T&T.

It is worth noting that Ken St. Andre and Steve Crompton have noted that the next edition of M!M! is likely to include a priestly Type (class). (Ken got to keep M!M! when FBInk was sold, the new owners of FBInc got T&T.)
