The group reacts quickly, dispatching the orcs efficiently. Only one orc even gets a chance to swing his weapon, which the swift halflings have no trouble dodging.

The two 'merchants' hurry past the halflings, heading up the street towards the fort. Shouts and screams can be heard all around. From the road, the halflings can see all the buildings in town, as well as the sillohette of the fort on the hill. About half the buildings are on fire. About a dozen humans and half-elves can be seen fleeing towards the fort. About twice that many orcs can be seen at various locations, none less than 30 feet away. More are presumably in some of the buildings. Loud crashes can be heard from the hill.

"So much for halfling stealth" comments Nodis from the kitchen's door as the construct pulls its fist from the orc's chest. "Should we go with them, or continue this way?"

Either way, Nodis makes the construct lead the way. If they continue with the kitchen's back door, the ectoplasmic creature opens the door, allowing Nodis to peek through.

ooc: Note to self: Contruct duration 2/5

With a grim expression on his face, Rasereit whispers, "Me 'orse.". He dashes as fast as he can out of the kitchen to the stables, glancing back at the halflings as he runs. (120' of movement)

Ogrin helps the woman up on her feet. "To the stables. We'll get you to the fort."

He awaits her response, and then heads towards the stables.

The group is able to take the woman to the stables and retrieve their horses. The orcs don't approach and engage the well-armed group, but stick to their pillaging for now. The group is now behind the stable, with their saddles and bags slung over their horses backs. They have a middle-aged human woman with them, too, who keeps looking around in shock.

They could retreat into the night, head up to he hill-fort, or clear out the town. Or something else. The loud pounding coming from the direction of the fort has now ceased. There is no sign of the two merchants who shared their dormitory.

"The two merchants talked about going to the fort." says Nodis. "But that noise sounded like a battering ram. If it has stopped it could mean they are inside. Wait a moment, though, I'll find out."

Nodis concentrates for a moment.

[sblock=ooc]Nodis manifests Clairvoyant sense, spending 3 power points. Notice that unlike the arcane version this one has a casting/manifesting time of 1 standard action, unlimited range, and allows you to see and hear at the same time. I'll create the sensor over the fort, high enough to have a good look at it but low enough to distinguish humans from orcs.[/sblock]
