Sanctuary [Sci-Fi]

Wait, this wasn't the new Stargate series?

Nope, it just happens to have Amanda Tapping (Col. Carter on Stargate) in it. The two are not related. Apparently she and some others did some webisodes as proof of concept and it was picked up by SciFi for a show. I don't think you need to see the webisodes to understand what's going on (I didn't).

Does it assume you've seen the webisodes, or is it a re-start?

I thought these were the webisodes only expanded. I thought it odd of her to quit atlantis to work on an unproven internet show. I did not think this was coming to tv. As a matter of fact i remember her saying that she wanted to pioneer more shows like this on the internet. I guess bills caught up with.

And I could have sworn the other guy was Daniel Jackson. He looked very similar. (But I know it wasn't Shanks) ;)

I thought it was kinda... okay. Not great but not bad, either. I will continue to see it a few more to see if it grows on me. Dialog was horrible at the beginning, and the personalities involved just didn't do much.

I thought it reminded me a lot of Torchwood, when the big reveal came (welcome to the sanctuary) a pixie instead of a pterodactyl flies overhead. There is a long conversation on the roof between Gwen and Jack.. I mean Magnus and the doc. And Magnus, like Jack, is a lot older than he/she looks. They replaced the aliens and technology with the supernatural.

I did think Amanda Tapping looked hot, but I like brunettes and women in dresses. Didn't think much of her accent, it seemed off, even if she is from the UK. I watch lots of British shows (Top Gear, Torchwood, Doc Who, Trinny & Susannah) but she just sounded odd.

Bingo, that's why i liked it it has the same premise as torchwood... wow complete with ageless hero and all. Does this mean we'll be seeing Amanda in intimate scenes with other women?

plot would have been better if we were not did not see the kid killing the cops. just start with the main character eating and getting the phone call.

And I think it might be a time to create a new trope "Evolution is a crapshot". Okay, it's not exactly evolution involved here, just genetic defects/mutations, but the idea of an appendage that gets more aggressive against someone that feels fear. That's a strange survival mechanismn. It might make sense if it reacts on your own fear, or if it protects someone that fears itself, but attacking it? At best, that's an ability useful for hunting, but even that is doubtful...

But then, I have lived through Voyager episodes where it turned out that humans in cramped space will apparently evolve into an amphibious or reptilious creature...

From the bit I watched, the blond woman (the daughter) was an awful actress (though she'd probably be a thespian in porn), and the dialog was stilted and awful. . . the whole thing was dim and cheap-looking.

I would give it 3 out of 5 turds on the ole crap-meter. . .

I watched the second episode, but they lost me as a regular viewer with the line about the last reported case of the bubonic plague appearing in Scotland about 800 AD. That's pretty amazing considering that it didn't reach Europe until the middle of the 14th century. In fact, it probably didn't even exist yet in 800 AD. What, they couldn't take two minutes (one, really) to look it up? Oh, then they couldn't talk about King Arthur as if there is some sort of consensus about who he was and what he did.

And here's a hint for the characters: If you see a bald guy, shot him. He's obviously a Bad Guy (tm)! (For myself, I'd have shot this week's bald guy when he started laughing, just to give everyone else something to laugh about.)
