Agreed as well. I always roll everything in view of the players. We all have hot and cold streaks when rolling. I think it's important for the player to see that I get those too. And as a player I like to see that.
As far as the 10/11 thing goes, I like the 10. I appreciate that extra 5% chance of the player making their save. I mean, the game is about being these awesomely powerful characters who can tear stuff up. Giving them that little boost makes me feel like I have some influence over what happens to my character. If it was straight 50/50, then why would you even roll a d20? You might as well flip a coin.
