Scarred Lands: Serpent Amphora Cycle

I'm going to be starting the Serpent Amphora Cycle soon to kick off a SL campaign (starting with the free adventure), and was wondering what sort of intro adventure people have used. Have you run another adventure to lead into it, or just started with the Serpent Amphora?

I was just curious what was a good lead-in to the series.

Serpent Amphora ( MINOR SPOILERS )

Spoilers below - SL Players should leave now...

I'm running Serpent Amphora now in preparation for the first module. I have actually "moved" Trela to a few days south of Mullis Town, along the Hornswythe River, as the party was there.

They party was hired to escort a wagon caravan of goods to Trela ( which worked well - some of the goods needed to be loaded onto a boat there), arriving just in time for the Carnival of Flowers.

The journey to see the Vigils in Lave from Trela ( to start Serpent in the Fold ) will just take a short trip - IF they ever get the Amphora back from the Asaath!

Also, one of the party members is a Vigil in training, so it was a natural for him to be approached by the poisoned vigilant.

To add further complexity, I am also boosting the EL's for a 5th level party! - The campaign started in Mithril originally...

PS - For those who don't know what we are talking about, The Serpent Amphora is a FREE adventure ( 6-8 total levels ) from SSS for the Scarred Lands, and can be downloaded on their web extra's page:

It is a primer/marketing piece for their module series of which the first has already been printed, "The Sepent in Fold" I mentioned above.

Edit: corrected crucial spelling error changing fee to FREE

*would like to point he DOES have a life outside of this stuff*

I think it depends on how much lead time you want your characters to have. Not to mention how fast you level them. Certain challenges might be tougher or weaker depending both on the party makeup and if you decide to go "default" treasure or not.

scarred lands

I started my SL campaign in the dales (FR) and ran the dungeon module - Ironguard. I left the mirrior intact and had a magical trap set off and shatter the mirror and transport them to ghelspad (darakeene)

Just wanted to point out the fact that the second module in the series, The Serpent and the Scepter by Ari Marmell & C.A. Suleiman, is already on some shelves, as well...

Thanks for saying that Scott. :)

Btw if you do need a transition module, might want to try a wilderness based one, such as something from Fiery Dragon.

transition module

there has been alot of cool stuff in dungeon mag over the years that works well for this as well (esp the "side track adventures" -of course you will have to convert the older stuff and may have to make minor modifications to it to suit your game.) most of therir stuff is generic enough to easily fit into any D&D world

I had thought of doing that, it just seems so.....generic. But it works.
