Zane pulls out his bow and an arrow and readies himself. Since we do not know from which way an attack would come from I suggest we get into a circle with our backs to the center. The weakest should be in the center.

Raul moves opposite Zane with Tau between them. As he moves into position, he asks, "Devils, is that silver or cold iron?" He fiddles with his cold iron dagger and his silvered hand axe, before just making a fist. "I'm ready."

"An item which could cause a shift in the balance of power of the blood war has found its way to the general vicinity. A pocket plane really. If you could keep the item from the Devils that would be best." He tosses you a folded sheet of parchment. A mist begins to rise up around the circle and the wizard replies to Raul's queery, "Silver, but good is better. Don't bother with fire or poison." He adds, "You know we offer a class on countering lower planer threats, that you really should have taken. Professor Twilliger wrote the definitive guide on the subject before his mysterious disappearance..." The voice of the wizard is lost in the roar a gale force wind and reality seems to stretch and disappear to be replaced by a sudden silence and complete blackness. Just as you start to wonder if something has gone wrong and you've been trapped in some nameless void, sound returns with a vengeance as a high pitched squeal starts in the distance and growing louder and deeper as if you are moving at terrific speed. A spot of light appears and in an instant has grown to a sweeping nightmare landscape. In the distance you see a magma covered mountain glowing bright against the darkness light a bloody moon. It is shrouded in a black cloud of pyroclastic ash. You move past it or perhaps it moves past you and see another great fiery mountain. I river flows past at great speed cutting thorough narrow channels and crashing over great falls. You come close enough to feel the spray of a falls and then plummet on down to land on a rocky outcrop halfway down an a falls that drops for miles. The outcrop is bigger than it first appears and as you reach it you see it is covered in low gravel strewn hills. You get just a glimpse of strange misshapen creatures loping over the hills before you drop to the ground hard. (DC15 Dex check to avoid falling prone and taking 1d4 falling damage. If you fail roll the damage.) You find yourselves more or less intact on a low hill.

OOC: Perception checks and Initiative for all please.

[sblock=DC25 knowledge the planes check]The river and falls are almost certainly the river Styx which runs throughout the lower planes. This little outcrop in the falls must be the pocket plane the wizard mentioned. Your best guess is that the volcanoes above are in Gehenna. If that is true then the nine hells are below you at the bottom of the falls. [/sblock]

OOC: Any charisma based checks will be at -2 for good aligned characters.

The River Styx

The river itself feels wet, but it is not composed of water, at least here it is not. And when you look into it, you see glimpses of body parts and facial features that appear for a moment and then stretch and distort impossibly as they morph into other faces or parts. I's like a "Soup of Souls" that flows around you. It runs off of you completely when you withdraw your hand from it, and it does not cling to gear or clothing. Once you remove yourself from it, you are thoroughly dry.
