Some inspirational reading.

I've read some good books that might inspire some rpg goodness I want to share with you here.

Redliners, by David Drake. What does a ruthless interstellar empire do with soldiers who are too burned out to keep fighting but are too dangerous to send back into civilian life right away? Send them to protect a band of civilians who are sent to colonize a hell world where every lifeform seems hell-bent on killing outsiders. There are some tough to read deaths in this novel, and humanity is shown at it's best and worse.

The forlorn hope, by David Drake. This is a novel of mistakes. A mercenary band makes the mistake of working for a treacherous employer, the employer makes the mistake of betraying them, an army of religious fanatics makes a mistake when it demands the mercenaries be turned over to them for execution, both sides make the mistake of trying to stop the mercenaries from escaping, a government mistakenly decides to execute a good man for succeeding to keep the truth about their incompetence hidden. A lot of people pay for others mistakes.

Both are damn good novels and both could be the basis of some good mini campaigns.
