Interesting Topic, but i am more into disbelief with the str20 halfling (barbarian? roflmao) compared to the str 8 halforc (wizard? yuck), that disturbs me far more.
Tbh if you even start Fixing things like you did in your solution to 1) then also add some clumsiness and stubborness to large and huge beasts.
E.g. In the Stone Age the first humans hunted mammoths with pack tactics, that is, and sure enough it was dangerous, but they manged to kill these with flintstone weapons.
And they had no spell to assist them, and most probable they were much stronger physically than todays average, but compared with str 20 in D&D they still would be weaker than that.
